<div><div><div>The Patient Registration Representative provides administrative support and high-level customer service support to patients, families, internal team members, providers and referring practices in admission, registration, insurance management functions, and check in/check out. Supports departmental and organizational goals including pre-service collections registration quality and patient family experience.
Job Status: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Shift: Days. 8-hour shifts, Monday - Friday. 
 
Duties &amp; Responsibilities<ul><li>
Provides patient support services which may include registration, scheduling, patient greeting and providing directions, patient check in/out and follow-up visit support.</li><li>
Utilizes and remains up to date with department office operations and established policies and procedures.</li><li>
Provides customer service support and assistance to patients, families, physicians and other internal/external customers.</li><li>
Supports health insurance management functions by collecting patient insurance information, documenting the patient&rsquo;s method of payment and/or collecting payment financial responsibility. May also include supporting referrals and pre-authorizations and benefits/eligibility determinations.</li><li>
Ensures patients are informed of benefits and associated costs by creating and communicating personalized estimates of financial responsibility.</li><li>
Provides and obtains signatures for the appropriate treatment consent forms from patients/families. Maintains current understanding of patient access policies, state laws and regulations including acknowledgement documents, legal guardian verification and consent collection.</li><li>
Obtains and documents patient demographic information.</li><li>
Receives patient calls or inquiries to schedule appointments, complete registration functions and route calls as appropriate.</li><li>
Performs data entry functions, including entering patient demographic information and patient updates in a medical records system.</li><li>
Conducts patient and family rounding to ensure patient&rsquo;s/family&rsquo;s comfort level.</li></ul>

Verifies insurance eligibility using online eligibility system, payer websites or by phone call.

Reviews insurance information and speaks to patients regarding available financial aid.
 
Explains billing procedures, hospital policies and provides appropriate literature and documentation.
 
Scans required documents used for claim submission into patient&rsquo;s medical record.
 
Escorts or transports patients in a safe and efficient manner to and from various destinations.
 
Assists clinical staff in administrative duties as needed.
 
Complies with policies and procedures that are unique to each access area.
 
Assists with training new associates.
 
Oversees functions of reception desks and lobbies including, but not limited to, cleanliness and order of lobbies and surrounding work areas.
 
Goes to the Nursing Units to register or obtain consents.

The Patient Access Representative -front-end, works directly with patients, family, and various hospital staff to ensure that Patients are taken care of while on their journey with SJH. Patient Access functions consist of but not limited to Desk registration, bedside registration, pre-registration and floating to areas within Patient Access dept to assist as need directed by management. In all locations, the Patient Access will ensure that accounts are financial secure, meaning collecting demographics, insurance information, reviewing financial responsibilities consisting of co-pays, past due balances, and estimates.
 
Job Responsibilities:

<li>Admitting/Checking patients on both Emergency and Comprehensive Psychiatric ED boards (CPEP)</li>

EDUCATION and TRAINING:

 Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.

Role Purpose
The Patient Access Representative is often the first point of contact for our patients and therefore must represent BJC with the highest standard of customer service, compassion and perform all duties in a manner consistent with our mission, vision, values, and BJC service standards. The Patient Access Representative will facilitate all components of the patients' entrance into any BJC facility. This position will require a high level of emotional intelligence, professionalism and ability to make a personal connection. The patient experiences vary broadly based on their medical needs and acuity. This position highly impacts the ability to maximize the level of reimbursements and prevention of denials by accurate collection of demographics and insurance information, benefit verification and point of service collection. Selecting the correct patient from the master person index (MPI) is critical to patient safety. This team member must possess a friendly demeanor, exceptional attention to detail and maintain knowledge and competence with insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines as well as federal, state, and accreditation agencies. 
Responsibilities<ul><li>
Utilize critical thinking skills to problem solve a variety of situations, anticipating patients' needs and being able to respond to them. Communicate in a professional, positive, and patient-focused manner with all patients, families, and co-workers whether in-person, over the computer or by phone. This responsibility is critical to ensure positive patient experience, maximize reimbursements, and minimize denials and avoidable write-offs, and ensuring that we are maintaining the integrity of the patients clinical, financial, and billing record by correctly selecting the precise Master Patient Index (MPI).</li><li>
The responsibilities of this position include hospital registration and scheduling within multiple BJC systems. Assures proper patient identification, registers, schedules, verifies insurance, scans and retrieves documents within multiple BJC systems. Validates that the order is complete, signed by the ordering provider, and the correct test is ordered. The attention to detail is essential to ensure accurate patient records. Strong communication skills are necessary in order to provide the patient with preparation instructions for each scheduled procedure, education on financial responsibilities and collection of applicable patient payments.</li><li>
In order to comply with complex regulatory guidelines, must be able to understand, articulate and enforce hospital compliance with Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP), HIPAA Privacy Standards, Patient Bill of Rights and Responsibilities, Advance Directives, Consent to Treat, EMTALA, JCAHO Requirements. Each patient completes HIPAA acknowledgement.</li><li>
BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.</li></ul>
