Clinical Scientist Position Description:
The Clinical Scientist fellow will act as a key clinical interface with the Medical Lead to provide scientific, clinical, and operational input contributing to the clinical development programs at Vertex, working on cross-functional study teams for the design, execution, and monitoring of clinical trials, as well as assisting with data interpretation and communication. This role will also serve as a point of contact for external collaborations with clinical investigators and thought leaders. The Clinical Scientist fellow will learn various aspects of the drug development process, while focusing on specified deliverables for a specific program. Activities will include program team involvements and presentation skills development. In addition, the fellow will have the opportunity to interact with, and learn from, other groups at Vertex with an aim of providing a broader understanding of Clinical Research.

</h2>&middot; Work with cross-functional teams as the clinical representative and liaison to the therapeutic area to conduct clinical studies, including study start-up, safety and medical monitoring, and study close-out activities
&middot; Support Medical Lead with medical monitoring reports, safety reviews, site interactions, and reviewing tables, figures, and listings (TFLs). Responsible for analytical support of clinical trial data (safety and efficacy), including gathering, analyzing, reviewing, interpreting, and providing preliminary assessments and recommendations to the Medical Lead. Analyze and synthesize information to assess issues relating to protocol conduct and/or individual subject safety. Assist in communicating a clear overview of trial results
&middot; Provide support for Data Monitoring Committees including operationalizing the charter, preparing updates and blinded data reviews, execution of meetings and adjudications, and communication of synthesized data reports

<div>Position Summary: 
The Division of Newborn Medicine is seeking to hire a computational scientist to lead data analysis across a range of projects in collaboration with faculty across the Division. The Division is home to scientists in genomics and biology associated with brain, lung, heart, and intestinal development and disease. We are seeking an experienced data scientist who is highly organized, a strong communicator, independent and curious problem solver, and capable of managing several tasks simultaneously. Bioinformatics projects will include data from single cell/nucleus and spatial transcriptomics, RNA-seq, genome sequencing, ribosome profiling, among others. The successful candidate will be comfortable with the use of high-performance computing infrastructure, Bash scripting, R, Python, and other approaches. Candidates must have a PhD in data sciences, bioinformatics, or a related field. 
Key Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Perform detailed computational analysis of varied data types, including single cell/nucleus sequencing, genome sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, ribosome profiling, among others. Execute standard computational pipelines and customize as needed based on project goals. Works effectively in a high performance computing environment with multiple coding languages.</li><li>
Provides input to the overall research design to suggest techniques, maximize samples or refine data by the use of specialized techniques.</li><li>
Evaluates research data and initiates alternative approaches to improve quality of the results.</li><li>
Calculates, graphs and compiles data obtained, maintaining records and logs of work performed. Perform and interpret statistical analyses.</li><li>
Prepares articles and papers on specialized techniques.</li><li>
Communicates results effectively with stakeholders in a timely fashion, in both written and verbal formats.</li><li>
Manages time and responsibilities across multiple tasks simultaneously.</li><li>
Attends multi-disciplinary lab meetings of faculty in the Division and participates in discussion of methods and results. Collaborates effectively with lab members who have a range of familiarity with computational methods.</li></ul>
Minimum Qualifications 
Education:<ul><li>
A PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, and Data Science is required.</li></ul>
Experience:<ul><li>
5 years of relevant work experience is required.</li><li>
Advanced computational experience, including with R and Python, is required.</li><li>
Experience with data from single cell sequencing, RNA-seq, or spatial transcriptomics is a plus.</li><li>
Experience with machine learning.</li><li>
Analytical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the use of scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in depth, experienced based knowledge.</li><li>
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing including assigning and distributing work, coaching, training and enforcing policies.</li></ul>
