 The employee will be responsible for a variety of job functions related to offenders, coaching to help those under supervision address their needs and learn new skills that lead to a more prosocial lifestyle and ultimately protection of the public. These responsibilities include, but not limited to, the preparation of background reports on offenders convicted in Circuit Court which will be utilized to determine sentences; supervision of offenders placed on community supervision through Court ordered probation or parole from a state correctional facility. The employee will be required to supervise a caseload of offenders, which may include but is not limited to: sex offenders, offenders placed on a variety of electronic monitoring devices including Global Positioning System (GPS), gender specific, mentally ill, Interstate Compact, or other specialized caseloads as designated by the Deputy Director of Field Operations. The employee will follow policy, procedures, Director Office Memorandums (DOM) and Guiding Principles of the Department of Corrections in order to meet the goals of the Department.

Considerable independent judgement is required to carry out assignments that have significant impact on services or programs.

The incumbent in this position is responsible for supervising, surveilling and maintaining a specialized caseload consisting of youthful offenders, drug offender probation, community controlees, pre-trial intervention offenders, offender releases or any combination of the above. As workload demands require, this position may be required to supervise other types or classifications of offenders. The incumbent may also perform duties relating to the intake officer, court liaison officer, trainer and electronic monitoring device installer. This position may also direct and supervise a correctional probation officer at a probation and restitution center and may involve monitoring a residential treatment facility and being the on-site departmental representative supervising the program participants.

Encourages and fosters offender compliance with the supervision order through guidance, goal setting, monitoring of offender behavior and supervision in the community.</div><br>

Work involves the counseling and supervision of individuals on probation or parole, completion of pre-sentence investigation reports, and investigation of pre-parole plans. Four years in any combination of post secondary education from an accredited college and/or paraprofessional experience in probation, parole, criminal justice, juvenile justice, social services, corrections, criminal investigation, public safety or law enforcement, mental health, substance abuse treatment, rehabilitation, case management, or similar work experience will substitute for the required degree.<br>

APSIN CHECK</b><br>
This position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS determines that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial security clearance application.<br>
