</b></p><p>HJF is seeking a part-time <b>Research Assistant I </b>to support the Suicide Care, Prevention, and Research (CPR) Initiative in the Medical and Clinical Psychology (MPS) department within the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland. This position is located at the Suicide CPR Initiative office in Bethesda, Maryland (HJF Headquarters Building) and the incumbent will be expected to work a hybrid schedule.
</p><p>The Research Assistant I will serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team and examine topics pertaining to military mental health and suicide prevention. One primary function of the Research Assistant I will be to review and code records belonging to military suicide decedents and contribute to the preparation of executive summaries and timelines for each record. The ideal candidate will have prior military experience and/or prior research experience with military populations.
</p><p>This position will be in support of the Suicide CPR Initiative, previously known as the Laboratory for the Treatment of Suicide-Related Ideation and Behavior, which was established in 2006. Dr. Holloway, the Director of the Suicide CPR Initiative, is a clinical psychologist and an intervention scientist who is primarily interested in developing and empirically evaluating novel interventions for suicide risk reduction. The Suicide CPR Initiative is strategically in a unique position to focus on the problem of military suicide, given its origins at USU and its established partnerships with the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs, as well as national and international collaborators and stakeholders. Overall, the mission of the Suicide CPR Initiative is threefold: CARE: To develop effective interventions targeted at reducing suicidal thoughts and/or behaviors; PREVENTION: To save lives through education, intervention, science, and advocacy; RESEARCH: To advance suicide intervention science and practice.

<div>The Wig Neuroimaging Lab (directed by Dr. Gagan Wig) at the Center for Vital Longevity, University of Texas at Dallas, is looking for a research assistant to work on a multi-year NIH-funded research project studying brain network risk and resilience in human aging. The mission of the project is to understand the health and lifestyle factors that relate to age-related brain and cognitive decline in middle-age adults at risk of Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease. This work will be accomplished by collecting functional neuroimaging data and extensive characterization of individual&rsquo;s changes in cognition, physiological measures of health, and measures of environment and lifestyle over a 4 year period.</div><div>

The candidate will assist in participant recruitment, data collection and processing of cognitive and brain imaging data. The candidate must be willing to work in a collaborative and inter-disciplinary environment. The Gerszten lab is a national leader in metabolomic and proteomic technologies and focuses on the nexus of cardiac and metabolic diseases. We make observations in humans, and then turn back to cell and animal based systems to test for causal relationships. Our research also incorporates basic molecular and cell biology, chemistry and mass spectrometry, bioinformatics, all with a foundation in clinical medicine.</p>
<p>
The successful candidate will support investigators with performing proteomic assays on a wide variety of studies.</p>
<p>
This position is ideal for someone interested in pursuing medical school or graduate studies in biology, genetics or translational research.</p>

<p><b>Job Description:</b></p>
<p><b>
Essential Responsibilities:
</b></p><ul><li><p>Conducts routine tests following established procedures, which may include assays, DNA sequencing, tissue culture, protein purification, Southern blotting, PCR analysis, electrophoresis, chromatography. (essential)</p>
</li>
<li><p>Researches and collects basic study data through monitoring devices and maintains daily logs/basic records of methodologies and test results. With supervision, using databases, may summarize data and interpret results using descriptive statistics and basic hypothesis testing. (essential)</p>

<li><p>Performs literature searches and library investigations as they relate to the research and/or as assigned. (essential)D</p>
</li>
<li><p>ue to the dynamic environment in which research exists, must show flexibility in performing principal duties and responsibilities as research projects evolve. (essential)</p>

<li><p>Attends Medical Center lectures regarding all safety requirements/conditions. Attends courses, lectures, and conferences to further own knowledge of research. (essential)M</p>

</ul><p><b>Required Qualifications:</b></p>
<ul>
<li><p>Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or related scientific field required.</p>
</li>
<li><p>0-1 years related work experience required.</p>
</li>
<li><p>Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.</p>

Physical Nature of the Job:</b><br>
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus.</p><br>

<p><b>Pay Range:
</b></p><p>$19.23 &ndash; $26.44</p>
<p>
The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.</p>
