Specific Job Duties 
(1) Performs cleaning and preventive maintenance tasks on tools and equipment 
(2) Performs housekeeping duties in the maintenance of classrooms, grounds, and entire site 
(3) Assist in transporting tools, supplies, equipment, and materials as needed on school sites 
(4) Improves skills by attending training opportunities 
(5) Ability to operate power tools, such as saws, drills, wrenches, and various tools 
(6) Ability to make simple measurements, cuts, bends, shapes, applies, mixes, or otherwise handle materials and substances in accordance with instructions 
(7) Ability to operate small machinery (weed eaters, blowers, mowers, and chain saws) 
(8) Check lighting in buildings and classrooms and replace any burnt bulbs as necessary 
(9) Check emergency exit lighting and emergency lights in buildings monthly 
(10) Performs all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or Superintendent

Terms of Employment 
8 hours per day - 12 months (240 days) 
 
There shall be a probationary period of 90 days from date of employment for new employees. After 90 days, a decision based upon an evaluation will be rendered in regards to the employee&rsquo;s status as a permanent employee. 
 
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board&rsquo;s policy on evaluation of non-instructional personnel

The job of Custodian Head-Elementary is done for the purpose/s of providing custodial services at assigned elementary site; ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors; performing a variety of special cleaning operations; overseeing the preparation of facilities for classroom activities and campus events; overseeing and supporting assigned custodians in the performance of their assignments; maintaining grounds; and ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe, proper, and timely manner. 
 
Essential Functions</div><ul><li>

Oversees facility maintenance activities and assigned custodial personnel (e.g. sweepers, part-time custodial employees, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring functions are performed efficiently in compliance with site requirements and established standards.</li><li>
Oversees and schedules assigned personnel (e.g. custodian, lead custodian, sweepers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safe and efficient site maintenance.</li><li>
Participates in personnel decision-making (e.g. hiring, dismissal procedures, etc.) for the purpose of assisting assigned administrator with personnel actions.</li><li>
Performs routine maintenance on the boiler, water heater, cooling tower, etc. (e.g. changing filters, cleaning, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring this equipment is in proper working condition.</li><li>
Performs minor job-related maintenance on custodial equipment, classroom furniture, and fixtures (e.g. change vacuum cleaner belts and bags; change HVAC filters; grease machinery; change ballasts; hang whiteboards; install fixtures; perform equipment maintenance and minor repairs;, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring proper functioning and usability of items.</li><li>
Performs grounds keeping functions (e.g. weeding, mowing, edging, applying herbicides/pesticides, pruning, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining grounds in a safe and attractive manner.</li><li>
Prepares written materials (e.g. supply requisitions, safety inspections, work orders, inventory records, time sheets, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or relating activities to administration for action.</li><li>

This is a standard position description to be used for positions with similar duties, responsibilities, classification and compensation. Employees assigned to the position description may or may not perform all of the essential functions indicated in this position description.

Part I: Position Summary: 
The school custodian plays an essential role in maintaining the building and physical plant, and supporting a learning environment that promotes health, attitude and pride of students. In addition to regular building maintenance functions, the school custodian provides direct support to classroom teachers in set up and maintenance of furniture and equipment. The school custodian also serves as a role model for students by displaying a professional, courteous, and helpful nature. Assists in campus security as necessary.

Part II: Supervision and Controls over the Work:
The school custodian receives day-to-day direction from the school administrator(s) and receives specific performance requirements from the supervisor for maintenance/custodial. The school custodian operates within district and school policies and procedures, and by applying acceptable custodial standards, Labor and Industry standards, and OSHA standards. 
Part III: Major Duties and Responsibilities (depending on specific assignment, duties and responsibilities listed may include, but are not limited to the following):<ul><li>
Cleaning Functions:</li></ul><ul><li>
Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and refinish floors; clean, dust and polish furniture; wash windows and walls; clean restrooms; dispose of rubbish, change lights, etc.; make certain all areas of the building are kept in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition according to industry and/or district standards.</li><li>
Pick up litter within the schools and on school grounds.</li><li>
Assure safety during inclement weather to including shoveling, salting, providing slip protection on wet floors, securing against wind damage, snow removal from roofs, remove debris from down spouts when clogged, etc.</li><li>
Applies cleaning chemicals according to established safety procedures.</li><li>
Adheres to safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment.</li><li>
Performs minor repair and maintenance as authorized by district maintenance staff.</li><li>
Removes extraneous dirt/markings from interior and exterior vertical/horizontal surfaces (walls, doors, etc.).</li><li>
Advise building principal/Maintenance Department on matters relating to mechanical equipment and/or building maintenance.</li><li>
Performs minor painting to walls, rails, playgrounds and other areas of the school.</li><li>
Keeps all equipment in a good state of repair and cleanliness.

Initiate maintenance service requests according to district procedures. Follows-through to assure that maintenance is performed in a timely manner.</li><li>
Maintains inventory and request cleaning supplies and materials needed to accomplish assigned tasks.</li><li>

This is a standard position description to be used for positions with similar duties, responsibilities, classification and compensation. Employees assigned to the position description may or may not perform all of the essential functions indicated in this position description.

Part I: Position Summary: 
The school custodian plays an essential role in maintaining the building and physical plant, and supporting a learning environment that promotes health, attitude and pride of students. In addition to regular building maintenance functions, the school custodian provides direct support to classroom teachers in set up and maintenance of furniture and equipment. The school custodian also serves as a role model for students by displaying a professional, courteous, and helpful nature. Assists in campus security as necessary.

Part II: Supervision and Controls over the Work:
The school custodian receives day-to-day direction from the school administrator(s) and receives specific performance requirements from the supervisor for maintenance/custodial. The school custodian operates within district and school policies and procedures, and by applying acceptable custodial standards, Labor and Industry standards, and OSHA standards. 
Part III: Major Duties and Responsibilities (depending on specific assignment, duties and responsibilities listed may include, but are not limited to the following):<ul><li>
Cleaning Functions:</li></ul><ul><li>
Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and refinish floors; clean, dust and polish furniture; wash windows and walls; clean restrooms; dispose of rubbish, change lights, etc.; make certain all areas of the building are kept in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition according to industry and/or district standards.</li><li>
Pick up litter within the schools and on school grounds.</li><li>
Assure safety during inclement weather to including shoveling, salting, providing slip protection on wet floors, securing against wind damage, snow removal from roofs, remove debris from down spouts when clogged, etc.</li><li>
Applies cleaning chemicals according to established safety procedures.</li><li>
Adheres to safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment.</li><li>
Performs minor repair and maintenance as authorized by district maintenance staff.</li><li>
Removes extraneous dirt/markings from interior and exterior vertical/horizontal surfaces (walls, doors, etc.).</li><li>
Advise building principal/Maintenance Department on matters relating to mechanical equipment and/or building maintenance.</li><li>
Performs minor painting to walls, rails, playgrounds and other areas of the school.</li><li>
Keeps all equipment in a good state of repair and cleanliness.
