Purpose Statement
The job of Teacher was established for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for developing student success in academics or electives; developing lesson plans and delivering group and/or individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students&rsquo; parents or guardians regarding instructional programs and student progress.

Essential Functions<ul><li>
Administers subject specific assessments, district and/or state tests for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.</li><li>
Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.</li><li>
Analyzes test data for the purpose of enhancing student achievement by directly impacting instruction.</li><li>
Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, administration and/or to seek the assistance of district specialists.</li><li>
Collaborates with professional learning communities, instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, business partners, and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.</li><li>
Counsels students for the purpose of improving performance, health status, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.</li><li>
Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.</li><li>

Maintains a variety of confidential and non confidential manual and electronic files and records (e.g. grades, test scores, etc.) for the purpose of providing up to date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established administrative guidelines and legal requirements.</li><li>
Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe, optimal learning environment.</li><li>
Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, campus grounds, field trips, clubs, sporting events, graduation, dances, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.</li><li>
Participates on a variety of building and district teams (e.g. PLC, staff, SAP, department, etc.) for the purpose of contributing to collaborative efforts with the goal of student success.</li><li>
Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, lesson plans, progress reports, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.</li><li>
Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code and school policies.</li><li>
Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.</li><li>
Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. students, teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.</li></ul> 
Other Functions<ul><li>
Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.</li></ul> 
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records. 
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform advanced math; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Responsibility

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Job Function: Responsible for managing the school library and has a passion for educating students K-8. This includes but is not limited to, teaching the library classes, maintaining an inventory of books and electronic equipment, and cataloging all materials.
Duties and Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Oversee the daily operation of the school Library; provide library services to all students, faculty, and administration.</li></ul>

In the area of teaching and learning, the digital learning teacher librarian shall:<ul><li>
Collaborate with teachers to develop, deliver, and evaluate an information and technology literacy curriculum at assigned buildings. At the K-5 level, instruction will be integrated with the district&rsquo;s library classes and, when appropriate and possible, with classroom activities. At the 6-12 level, instruction will be embedded into classroom activities by partnering with teachers and other building staff.</li><li>
Assist with district curriculum development by participating in team planning and teaching, serving as a classroom resource person, and providing instructional materials support.</li><li>
Promote and assist staff and students in the use of a variety of print, non-print, and digital resources.</li><li>
Promote and support the appropriate use of technology by students and teachers, including digital citizenship skills.</li><li>
Provide instructional support for and assistance with all facets of the research process.</li><li>
Provide reading guidance and encourage reading for both enjoyment and information.</li><li>
Support instruction for diverse learning abilities, styles, and needs and model and promote effective and creative teaching strategies.</li><li>
Help students become independent users of information.</li><li>
Provide professional learning support to teachers on emerging technologies, technology integration, and online resources.</li><li>
Communicate with parents and teachers on services of the library.</li><li>
Complete other duties as assigned.</li></ul>
In the area of school library program administration, the digital learning teacher librarian shall:<ul><li>
Design, implement, and evaluate a school library program at assigned buildings. The program will support building and district goals and fulfill requirements for school library programs as defined by the State of Iowa.</li><li>
Ensure that technology related to the district&rsquo;s digital learning program (makerspace equipment, Chromebooks, tablets, etc.) is utilized to support learning.</li><li>
Coordinate with building administrators on the daily operation of the school library; management of media center budgets; and training and supervision of library staff, student aides, and volunteers.</li><li>
Encourage the use of the school library and its resources by establishing a friendly, productive atmosphere and ensuring flexible, convenient access.</li><li>
Inform administrators, staff, students, families, and other stakeholders about school library program goals, digital learning opportunities, and school library activities.</li><li>
Communicate with principals and/or the Teaching and Learning Department regarding successes and concerns surrounding the school library program.</li><li>
Organize and maintain records of acquisitions, holdings, circulation, etc., for hardware and materials inventory, maintenance, and access.</li><li>
Select and manage materials (print, non-print, and digital), textbooks, curriculum materials, and equipment according to board policy, state and federal legislation, and supporting regulations.</li><li>
Participate in district-level meetings, professional development, committee work, and curriculum writing.</li><li>
 Remain current in the profession through professional growth.</li><li>
 Complete other duties as assigned.</li></ul>

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS -<ul><li>

Occasional meetings outside the school day.</li><li>
Occasional exposure to body fluids, fumes, noise, and hazardous materials and emergency situations.</li></ul>
