Damar is currently seeking a talented, motivated and detail oriented Teacher to be responsible for performing a variety of skilled tasks related to education of students at Damar Charter Academy with specific functions such as, setting the tone of instruction for the class, developing and participating in activities that promote the development of skills identified in Individual Education Plans (IEPs) including academics, behavioral stability, communication skills, social functioning skills, independence (self help and daily living) skills, and vocational skills. The Teacher will also be responsible for completing state assessments such as ISTAR or ISTEP, and other specific assessments (WIAT-II, ABAS-II, CBC, WRAT, CBMs, FBAs).</div><div></div><div><b><br>

Develops and implements standards-based IEPs, daily/weekly class and lesson plans</li><li>
Teaches students to acquire academic, self-help, daily living and social skills, as stated in the standards-based IEP</li><li>
Completes reports on the standards-based IEP goals, skills and classroom performance of each student</li><li>
Ensures that all activities, services and programs through Damar are conducted in a manner that is sensitive to and shows respect for the cultural and ethnic diversity for all Damar students</li><li>
Conducts and supervises recreational and life enrichment activities as they relate to the school day</li><li>
Serves as a resource by tutoring students in academic subjects, as identified in the standards-based IEP</li><li>
Actively participates in staff training programs designed to increase overall skills</li><li>
Participates in programs designed to aid in the habilitation and training/treatment of the students</li><li>
Performs varied services including instructional, clerical, supervisory, housekeeping, and behavioral management duties as they relate to the school day</li><li>
Observes, records, and reports the condition and behavior of the students, including maintaining daily records of events during the school day, particularly those in the standards-based IEP</li><li>
Directs support staff within the classroom to ensure safe environment conducive to learning</li><li>
Consistently implements behavior management plans to reduce clients&rsquo; maladaptive behaviors and promote appropriate social behaviors</li><li>
Effectively responds to and manages crisis situations, which may include student physical aggression</li><li>
Completes incident reports, including reporting any suspected exploitation, abuse or neglect of a student</li><li>
Operates Damar vehicles and or personal vehicles to transport residents or perform other work-related duties</li><li>
Updates Harmony Student Information System daily for attendance, class planning, communication, record keeping</li><li>
Utilizes IDOE&rsquo;s Learning Connection</li><li>
Takes pride and ownership in Damar&rsquo;s facilities and assigned work areas</li><li>
Attends mandatory staff meeting and other meetings as assigned</li><li>

<li>Prior experience working with curriculum development, differentiation and instruction; preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting.</li>
<li>Prior experience and/or knowledge in special education services and compliance, particularly for students with learning disabilities, emotional behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorders and/or other related disabilities.</li>
<li>Prior experience and/or highly knowledgeable in working with students with individualized education plans (IEP's).</li>
<li>Proven success in developing and implementing effective education plans for students with diverse needs.</li>

As a <b>Special Education Teacher</b>, you will lead the instructional process for students in <b>Grades K-5</b> with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), designing dynamic and personalized learning experiences within the learning center and/or classroom. Your role includes delivering targeted instruction, utilizing innovative curriculum resources, integrating educational software, and creating comprehensive lesson plans and schedules tailored to the diverse physical, emotional, and educational needs of each student, in alignment with state and school standards.</p>

<p><b>‖ Qualifications Required:</b></p>

<li>Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education or a closely related field of study.</li>
<li>Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL state professional educator (PEL) credential.</li>
<li>Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL state learning behavior specialist (LBS1) credential.</li>
<li>Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company approved crisis management training.</li>
<li>Prior experience working with curriculum development, differentiation and instruction; preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting.</li>
<li>Prior experience and/or knowledge in special education services and compliance; particularly for students with learning disabilities, emotional behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorders and/or other related disabilities.</li>
<li>Prior experience and/or highly knowledgeable in working with students with individualized education plans (IEP's).</li>
<li>Proven success in developing and implementing effective education plans for students with diverse needs.</li>
<li>Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals.</li>
<li>Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.</li>
<li>Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency and make independent decisions.</li>
