The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for the direct supervision of program participants and the planning and implementation of age-appropriate activities throughout the camp day.

This position supervises: No supervisory responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:<ul><li>
Lead activities and practice active supervision of participants at all times.</li><li>
Maintain head counts of campers at all times.</li><li>
Help Lead Counselor to create lesson plans to be submitted to Camp Director.</li><li>
Submit paperwork in a timely manner, which may include: attendance records, accident reports, behavior/incident reports, receipts, lesson plans, etc.
</li><li>Communicate effectively with participants.</li><li>
Maintain order and enforce rules during program.</li><li>
Prepare materials for camp.
</li><li>Perform set-up and clean-up responsibilities for the program.</li><li>
Ensure classroom and equipment is maintained properly and supplies are stored in an orderly fashion in the appropriate storage closets.</li><li>
Adhere to scheduled hours.</li><li>
Follow all bus and trip procedures while on camp field trips.</li><li>
Work in conjunction with fellow staff members to support and adhere to the goals and objectives of summer camp.</li><li>
Work well with other Park District staff members and report any issues to the Recreation Supervisor or the Summer Camp Director.</li><li>
Supervise participants in and out of the water at the pool.</li><li>
Demonstrate and support park district customer service standards.</li><li>
Follow district and departmental safety, personnel, and administrative policies, procedures and ordinances.</li><li>
Responsible for being trained and able to drive Mini Busses for program needs (those individuals 21+)</li><li>
Provide a safe and welcoming environment for all participants.</li><li>
Distribute flyers or other information to participants when required.</li><li>
Communicate any accidents, safety concerns, maintenance issues, parent complaints, etc. to Summer Camp Director and Recreation Supervisor.</li><li>
Attend required staff meetings and/or trainings.</li><li>
Carry out any other duties as assigned, including substituting as needed.</li></ul>
Requirements / Qualifications:<ul><li>
Must be 16 years of age or older.</li><li>
Seeking individuals that have availability Monday - Friday / Early June through mid August</li><li>
Typical hours for the program are Monday - Friday from 8:30am - 4:00pm</li><li>
There are opportunities to work extra hours from 7am - 8:30am before camp starts and 4:00pm - 6:00pm after camp ends</li><li>
Previous experience working with children, childcare/babysitting, coaching or customer service preferred.</li></ul>

Requirements:

Age Requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older.</li><li>
Experience: Prior experience working with children is required (camp counseling, coaching, tutoring, babysitting, childcare, or similar youth programming).</li><li>
Health &amp; Safety: CPR and First Aid certification strongly preferred.</li><li>

Commitment Requirements
We are looking for consistency for our campers. While we are hiring for the full summer, we have specific requirements for partial stays:
Priority: Applicants who can commit to the full 6-week term will receive precedence.
Minimum Requirement: We do not accept commitments of less than 3 consecutive weeks.
Option A: June 29th &ndash; July 17th
Option B: July 20th &ndash; August 7th
Compensation: $16.00 &ndash; $20.00 per hour commensurate with experience. 
This position is paid on an hourly basis and is classified as non-exempt, meaning it is eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable federal and New York State wage and hour laws.
