The <b>Surgical Coordinator</b> schedules office-based and hospital procedures consistent with the patient&rsquo;s diagnosis and procedure request. They also deliver excellent patient-centered care by ensuring the financial and surgical communication process is complete for patients having surgical procedures.</p><br>
<p><b>
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Schedules office- and hospital-based medical procedures for patients with appropriate provider and time/location slot, utilizing appropriate scheduling code.</li>
<li>Check every patient chart for insurance benefits, prepare a cost summary and counsel patients regarding finances.</li>
<li>Counsel patients for Physician Fee and Eye Surgery Center.
</li><li>Follow up/collect for surgery payments.</li>
<li>Schedules diagnostic and imaging tests to be completed at PMG.</li>
<li>Schedules office- and hospital-based medical procedures, tests and imaging ensuring available time is utilized to maximum efficiency.</li>
<li>Interfaces with appropriate vendor staff to ensure all necessary equipment will be on site for office- and hospital-based procedures, including scheduling with contracted anesthesia groups.</li>
<li>Interfaces with appropriate hospital staff to ensure a cohesive working relationship in providing patient care serves.</li>
<li>Enters notes/special instructions needed for scheduling in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).</li>
<li>Effectively utilizes clinical knowledge when determining if appointment is consistent with the diagnosis/indications indicated by the provider.</li>
<li>Completes accurate documentation of informed consent with patients for procedures and surgeries as needed.</li>
<li>Provides accurate, detailed information to patients regarding test preparations, time of patients' scheduled arrival, and any other directional information needed; takes appropriate action in responding to questions from patients.</li>
<li>Confirms patients' insurance provider and either obtains prior authorization or communicates need for prior authorization to appropriate parties as needed.</li>
<li>Ensures patients have proper medical clearance and pre-surgical testing as needed.</li>
<li>Completes pre-procedure phone calls and confirms appointment times with patients via telephone.</li>
<li>Ensures completion of assessment for advance directive, including DNR when applicable.</li>
<li>Reviews discharge instructions with patients and ensures proper follow-up appointments are scheduled at the time the procedure is scheduled.</li>
<li>Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that organizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.</li>
<li>Assists other members of the department as needed.</li>

<p><b>QUALIFICATIONS</b></p>

<li>This position requires utilization of clinical knowledge to schedule appropriate procedures/surgeries per provider&rsquo;s orders.</li>

<li>Must be able to respond to both written and oral correspondence regarding scheduling changes/cancellations in a timely, accurate manner.</li>

The Surgery Scheduler, ASC is responsible for adding cases to the surgery schedule, confirming the completion of verification of benefits, and determining patient insurance eligibility. The scheduler ensures all necessary equipment, staffing, and ancillary needs are fulfilled with the ASC leadership team. What you will do in this role:</b></p><p><b><br>
Obtains CPT and ICD-10 Diagnosis codes and other clinical information asrequiredfor treatment of the patient from practice staff; seeksassistancefrom practice and facility coders asdeterminedthrough practice and family processes</b></p><p><b><br>
DeterminesO.R. time needed for the procedure and works with Facility to ensure procedure isscheduled;daily schedule is streamlined and arranges necessary anesthesia coverage, asdeterminedthrough facility processed. Ensures all requirements for the procedure have been obtained and confirmed with the facility or other parties to include medical/imaging records and needed equipment/instruments.</b></p><p><b><br>
Verifies/confirms physician is credentialed at the Center of Facility before scheduling the patient.</b></p><p><b><br>
Ensures efficient coordination of provider clinic and facility schedule which could include awareness ofproviderschedule and coordination of provider time-out, travel, meetings, conferences, and continuing medical education.</b></p><p><b><br>
Supports and adheres to HCA Code of Conduct, related Ethics and Compliance policies, and HIPAA requirements</b></p><p><b><br>

  The Surgery Scheduler / Patient Care Coordinator schedules all surgical procedures and assures that all of the appropriate clinical and insurance coding information is collected for the surgery schedule. They will request to schedule procedures from physician offices and schedule the procedure according to established guidelines. They will provide accurate information so that all department may view daily and maintains open communication with hospital department and physician offices regarding schedule changes. They will act as a central key administrative assistant who will rotate and fulfill administrative duties, dependent on the needs and requirements of the clinic. They will provide coordination of care, continuity, follow-up, and support for the patients and their families. Duties are anticipated to change daily.
