ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Firefighter-Paramedic Recruit position is a non-sworn, non-safety, at-will role designed to prepare candidates for a career as a sworn Firefighter-Paramedic with the City of Ventura.
Firefighter-Paramedic Recruit
 
Recruits attend an 18-week Fire Academy and may participate in additional departmental training. Training provides an introduction to the fire service, including firefighting techniques, emergency medical response, physical fitness, and applicable rules, regulations, and procedures. Recruits are assigned to a 40-hour work week during the academy and training period.
Firefighter-Paramedic Trainee
 
Appointment to the sworn Firefighter-Paramedic Trainee classification is based on overall academy performance and evaluations. Trainees are assigned to a 56-hour work week (24-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays), serve a 12-month probationary period, and perform emergency medical services as a certified paramedic, along with fire service duties including fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials response, station and equipment maintenance, fire prevention, and public education.
Firefighter-Paramedic
 
Trainees who successfully complete one year of full-time firefighting experience advance to the Firefighter-Paramedic classification, performing the full range of journey-level Firefighter-Paramedic duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS &ndash; REQUIRED
Education &amp; Experience
High school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
Age
Must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
Citizenship
Must be a U.S. citizen or provide proof of application for U.S. citizenship at least one year prior to applying.
Background
Candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation.
Physical Requirements
Must be physically capable of performing all tasks required of a Ventura Firefighter-Paramedic, including the rigorous demands of emergency operations.
Must meet California Department of Motor Vehicle visual acuity standards necessary to maintain required licenses.
Fitness will initially be determined by possession of a Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) certificate and the ability to pass a medical evaluation.
Desirable Qualifications
Associate&rsquo;s degree in Fire Science, Fire Technology certification, or California Firefighter I certification.
One year of experience as a 911 emergency paramedic.
Some prior firefighting experience.

JOB OPPORTUNITY
 
Brazos County ESD No. 4
 Location: Bryan, Texas
 
Job Title: Firefighter- Part Time
 
Brazos County Emergency Services District No. 4 (“District”) is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Part-Time Firefighter /EMT-Basic.
 
Responsibilities: 
Perform a wide variety of technical tasks and functions in support of fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical services, rescue and hazardous material operations. The Part-Time Firefighter will be assigned to work ten (10) hour on-duty shifts based on availability.
 
Essential Job Functions:Duties include but are not limited to the following: 
1. Work cooperatively with other BCESD No. 4 Department employees, members, and the public
 2. Work at heights greater than ten (10) feet.
 3. Perform all duties related to fire rescue, including connecting and carrying fire hose, carrying, and setting up ladders,
 directing water and chemicals on burning structures, vegetation, vehicle, and other objects.
 4. Hazardous material response.
 5. Communicate with customers, clients, or the public in face-to-face, and/or one on one settings, email, and telephone.
 6. Disaster assistance.
 7. Tolerate extreme fluctuations in temperature while performing job duties.
 8. Work for long periods of time requiring sustained physical activity and intense concentration.
 9. Demonstrate acuity and ability of use of sense of sight and hearing to help determine the nature of an emergency and
 make operational decisions.
 10. Rescue persons trapped in vehicles, burning buildings, and other places.
 11. Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
 12. Observe and follow safety rules and regulations including wearing safety apparel and devices during the course and
 scope of job-related duties.
 13. Inspect equipment and supplies daily to ensure that all emergencies can be handled; restock supplies.
 14. Learn job-related material through structured lecture and reading and through verbal instruction and observation.
 15. Attend and complete all training as required.
 16. Maintain required certification.
 17. Ability to lift and carry 120 lbs.
 18. Other duties as assigned.
 
Requirements/Qualifications: 
1. Shall possess a current certification as a Basic firefighter by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (“TCFP”) or higher
 at the time of hiring.
 2. Hold minimum current certification as an EMT-Basic by the Texas Department of Health and Services or higher.
 3. Must have a valid Texas Class B Exempt License.
 4. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to read, write and fluently speak English.
 5. Must have Two (2) years of experience in a paid or Part-Time paid Fire Department.
 6. Must have Wildland S 130/190 certifications.
 7. Must have Courage to be Safe Course
 8. Must have National Highway Safety Class for First Responders
 9. Must possess ICS 100,200,700, and 800
 10. Ability to operate a fire department pumper
 11. High School Diploma or equivalent.
 12. Must be 18 years of age or older.
 13. Pass District Physical Agility Test (“PAT”)
 14. Pass a background check.
 15. Pass a medical exam and drug screen test.

Candidate must be able to successfully pass a Physical Ability Test with the Department and complete a interview with the Fire Chief.
