<div><p>At Wabash, Welders perform a variety of tasks vary from location to location. Welders have a key role in the manufacture of carbon/ stainless steel and aluminum products and subassemblies. Welders are a crucial position in the manufacturing process and are therefore expected to produce high-quality work while upholding production standards. We require Qualification Weld Tests and, in some cases, Certification Tests depending on the product line. Applicants that do not pass the initial Weld Test can be qualified by attending our own in-house Weld School, demonstrating that they can pass the Weld Test after training.

JOB SUMMARY</i></b></p><p>
Lay out, fit, and weld metal components to assemble beds, frames, and small parts work orders.</p><p><b><i>
ESSENTIAL DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES</i></b></p><ul><li>
Actively observe and promote BWise safety standards</li><li>
Analyze drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operation.</li><li>
Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications, using a variety of measuring tools.</li><li>
Tack-weld or welds component and assemblies using welding equipment.</li><li>
Monitor welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.</li><li>
Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisor.</li><li>
Evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.</li><li>
Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances using appropriate measuring instruments.</li><li>
Remove rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinder or hand file.</li><li>
Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.</li><li>
Ignite torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.</li><li>
Other duties, as assigned by Welding Supervisor.</li></ul><p><b><i>
PHYSICAL DEMANDS &amp; WORK ENVIRONMENT
</i></b></p><ul><li>Must be capable of standing for entire shift and sit for extended periods of time.</li><li>
Able to lift up to 50 lbs; ability to demonstrate full range of motion for reaching, bending, kneeling and stooping.</li><li>
Will be exposed to extreme heat and cold depending on weather.</li><li>
Subject to dirt, dust, oil, welding fumes, electric shock, bright lights, UV radiation, burns, traffic hazards, and high noise levels in the workplace.</li></ul><p><b><i>

</p><p><b><i>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS &amp; REQUIREMENTS</i></b></p><ul><li>
High School Diploma or GED.</li><li>
Must be able to read, write, count, communicate by various channels.</li><li>
Must have appropriate high school, vocational-technology school, or trade school training/certification in welding and/or demonstrated ability/expertise from on-the-job training from previous employment.</li><li>
Understand fundamentals of metallurgy as they relate to welding.</li><li>
Ability to read a tape measure.</li><li>
Ability to read and fully comprehend work instructions, prints, and work specifications.</li></ul><p>
