In this role, the Attorney is <b>responsible </b>for analyzing complex legal and factual issues, conducting extensive research, and developing well-reasoned legal strategies. They independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients, preparing complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, petitions for reconsideration, and trial briefs with a high degree of autonomy. Collaboration with Claims Partners is essential to achieve optimal outcomes for Hartford insureds. The attorney provides timely and effective communication, legal advice, and support to clients, while maintaining professional diplomacy in interactions with courts, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel. They facilitate the prompt and efficient resolution of cases and independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence in trials, hearings, arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings. Additionally, they research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts. The role includes participation in team huddles, conducting in-house training for junior associates and claims partners, and engaging in claims file reviews. To maintain a high level of professional expertise, the attorney regularly attends continuing legal education seminars.</p></div><div><p><b><br>

Compensation</b></p><p>
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford&rsquo;s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:</p><p></p>

The position of CA Workers' Compensation Staff Counsel will be responsible for managing a case load from inception to court. Responsibilities include pre-trial discoveries, drafting pleadings, communicating with involved parties, and presenting defense strategies in court. Maintains a solid understanding of AmTrust&rsquo;s mission, vision, and values. Upholds the standards of the AmTrust organization.</p>
Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Independently represents the Employer/Carrier before the assigned Judge of Compensation Claims and present witnesses and evidence at administrative hearings on litigated workers&rsquo; compensation claims.</li><li>
Analyzes complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of the Employer/Carrier.</li><li>
Prepares pleadings, written discovery, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies.</li><li>
Provides effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims professionals on legal and factual issues.</li><li>
Position requires the use of independent judgment, research, litigation and analytical skills.</li><li>
Assists in developing training materials for the WC claim department.</li><li>
Works with the WC claim department and Law Department on special projects related to the practice of workers' compensation.</li><li>
Communicates with the Office of the Judges of Compensation Claims, witnesses, opposing counsel and clients in a manner consistent with established office procedures.</li><li>
Responsible for the prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases.</li><li>
Keeps current with market trends and demands. Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain high level of professional expertise.</li><li>
Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.</li></ul>
Qualifications:
