Seasonal Buildings & Grounds Assistant

Summary

BBG is seeking a Seasonal Buildings & Grounds Assistant who will perform essential grounds, facilities, and maintenance duties to ensure a successful visitor season.

The Seasonal Buildings & Grounds Assistant will be asked to work a flexible schedule of approximately 18 hours per week. Some evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required to help support BBG’s busy calendar of programs and community events.

The hourly wage for this position is $18-20 per hour, depending on experience. This position is expected to start June 15 and end October 16. The Seasonal Buildings & Grounds Assistant will report to the Director of Buildings and Grounds.

Schedule

Monday: 1:30PM – 7:30PM

Wednesday & Friday: 8:30AM – 2:30PM

Approx. 18 hours/week

Occasional schedule adjustments may be required based on events or operational needs; advance notice will be provided whenever possible.

Responsibilities

  • Help maintain lawns, gardens, and outdoor spaces (mowing, trimming, edging, etc.)
  • Keep walkways and public areas clean, safe, and welcoming
  • Assist with seasonal tasks like mulching and weeding
  • Support recycling, compost, and trash operations
  • Help set up and break down for events (tables, chairs, equipment)
  • Assist with light maintenance projects, including painting and minor repairs
  • Work alongside staff to keep everything running smoothly

Qualifications

  • Some experience with landscaping, maintenance, or similar work is helpful (but not required—we can train the right person)
  • Comfortable using tools and equipment (or willing to learn)
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Positive attitude and willingness to jump in where needed
  • Good awareness of safety and surroundings
  • Friendly and respectful when interacting with visitors and staff
  • Able to perform physical work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Background check required
  • Must follow all BBG employee rules and regulations. BBG provides a smoke- and drug-free work environment for all employees

About Berkshire Botanical Garden

Berkshire Botanical Garden (BBG) is a membership-supported horticultural and educational organization encompassing over 24 acres of formal and natural gardens in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Our mission is to “provide information, education and inspiration concerning the science, art and joy of gardening and its role in preserving the environment.”

BBG provides a beautiful and stimulating work environment, with each season highlighting its signature character and charm.
