Seasonal Camp Kitchen Shift Lead

Is accountable to the Camp Director receiving direction from and reporting to the Assistant Kitchen Supervisor and Kitchen Supervisor on the administration, operation, and coordination of areas of work as delegated. Oversee the direct supervision of 1-2 Kitchen Staff per shift.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • Assists Assistant Kitchen Supervisor with the coordination of daily kitchen operations, including, but not limited to:
    • taking inventory;
    • keeping accounting records of the cost per camper day;
    • maintaining kitchen equipment; and
    • maintaining a well-equipped first aid kit.
  • Helps to provide ample well-balanced meals for campers and staff as directed.
  • Helps to maintain the kitchen, eating areas, and Lodge in an efficient and organized manner.
  • Supervises kitchen staff as assigned.
  • Reports all accidents and illnesses promptly.
  • Takes an active part in the total camp program when possible.
  • Adheres to health and safety standards as set by the county of Riverside.
  • Demonstrates and promote a climate of courtesy and professionalism to coworkers, the volunteers served by this council, and others with whom their job puts them in contact.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
  • Adheres to Council’s Affirmative Action Policy, which ensures that there will be no discrimination on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, sex, creed, national origin, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, disability or age.
  • Adheres to all council policies and procedures and the standards of the American Camp Association and other local or state agencies.
  • Performs other duties as delegated.

EDUCATION l WORK EXPERIENCE l CERTIFICATIONS

Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Prior food service experience
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment while adhering to dietary restrictions and camp meal plans

Required Skills:

  • Accepts and adheres to the purpose and principles of the Girl Scout Movement.
  • Registered member of the Girl Scout Movement.
  • Supports Council policies and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills, knowledge of food safety practices, and the ability to supervise a small team
  • Willingness to work with people regardless of age, race, disability, religion, ethnic or socioeconomic background; willingness to accept the beliefs and principles of the Girl Scout Movement

Minimum License, Certifications & Affiliations/Memberships and CEU’s:

  • Must successfully complete a criminal history background check and fingerprinting.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification through a verified provider.
  • Must have Riverside County Food Handler certification

For 2026, camp staff will have the opportunity to work at one of our 3 amazing camp properties! While Skyland Ranch will act as your home base for the summer season, you may be assigned to work a Troop Camp session at Azalea Trails or a Day Camp session at Wi-Wo-Ca! A typical week at Skyland Ranch begins with staff check-in at 8:00 AM on Mondays and conclude with a weekly wrap-up meeting after dinner on Fridays. Weekend programs range from 1.5-hour horse meet-and-greets to 2-day (Saturday to Sunday) family overnights.


Our summer season for staff runs from as early as June 1st for some positions, and can go as late as August 1st. Due to the diverse range of summer programs we're offering, we ask our staff to be available all 7 days during the week and will receive at least 24 hours off each week.
