Job Title: Seasonal Maintenance Technician – Wildlife Safari Park (Ashland, NE)
Hours: Monday - Friday (7:30 AM - 4:30 PM) for approximately 3 months
This is a seasonal position with a maximum duration of 6 months, based on individual performance and business operations. The exact end date will be determined by the official start date.
The Omaha Zoological Society is seeking a reliable Maintenance Technician to support the seasonal operations of the Wildlife Safari Park (WSP). This position plays a key role in ensuring a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for guests, animals, and staff by assisting in the general maintenance and repair of park buildings, vehicles, equipment, and infrastructure. This position reports directly to the Lead Maintenance Technician and is located at 16406 292nd St, Ashland, Nebraska.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions (include but not limited to):
Assist with routine building maintenance and exhibit repair.
Support the general maintenance of grounds through mulching, planting, and general cleanup.
Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and small equipment such as weed eaters and push mowers.
Follow established safety procedures and maintain safe work practices while performing maintenance tasks and operating tools and equipment.
Maintain organization and cleanliness of the maintenance facility and work areas.
Aid in maintaining accurate records of inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or GED required.
General construction and mechanical knowledge required.
Basic carpentry skills required.
Familiarity with preventative maintenance procedures for buildings, vehicles, and equipment.
Working knowledge of safe practices and safety compliance.
Ability to work independently and take initiative with minimal supervision.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff and visitors at all levels.
Candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, and possess a valid driver’s license with a good history.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and occasional extended or irregular hours.
Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, twist, climb, and reach overhead as required by daily tasks.
Ability to regularly lift, push, pull, or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds, using proper lifting techniques.
Must be comfortable working in a variety of outdoor weather conditions throughout the year.
