Summer Camp Counselor
The Town of Berwick is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Summer Camp Counselor to join our Parks & Recreation team. This position works under the direct supervision of the Parks & Recreation Director and plays a key role in providing engaging, innovative, and inclusive recreation and enrichment opportunities for youth grades K-8. This position is ideal for someone who wants to make a difference in the community while working in a fun, team-oriented environment. As a Counselor, you aren’t just a supervisor—you’re a coach, a craft expert, a professional tag player, and a mentor. You’ll help create a safe, inclusive, and ridiculously fun environment for local youth to thrive in.
This is a Seasonal, non-exempt position with a up to 40-hour work week.

SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR
Job Title: Summer Camp Counselor Classification: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Camp Director Supervisory: No
Position Type: Seasonal, temporary
GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Camp Directors, Counselors will assist in planning, organizing, directing, and participating in recreational activities for children grades K-9. Counselors are responsible for supervising campers, maintaining discipline and safety of all campers and administering basic first aid. Counselors will follow daily schedules for indoor and outdoor activities including games, crafts, field trips and events.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
· Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills
· Proficient in conflict resolution
· Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to various and diverse groups and individuals, including children.
· Considerable knowledge of the materials, methods, safety precautions and techniques related to summer camp operations.
· Knowledge of health and safety practices and procedures at recreation parks and facilities
· Basic first aid.
ABILITY TO:
· Act as a positive role model to campers.
· Remain engaged and attentive to campers at all times.
· Organize and manage children grades K-9 while remaining positive, patient and alert.
· Respond to various situation, including emergencies.
· Plan, supervise, coordinate, and instruct age-appropriate activities for campers.
· Work collaboratively as a team.
· Establish and maintain professional effective working relationships with coworkers.
· Professionally & tactfully conduct self when interacting with disgruntled members of the public.
· Communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral forms.
· Function independently to exercise initiative and creativity within the broad scope of job description & municipal and department policies.
RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Education/Training:
· Prior experience working with children preferred.
Licenses/Certifications/Other:
· Adult and Child First Aid and AED certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire.
