Security Officer

DESCRIPTION

Primary Objectives

Performs intermediate work maintaining security, safety and decorum in an assigned court and associated public facilities while the court is in session and during public access hours; performs related tasks as apparent or assigned.

This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitors scanning equipment, security gate or in court as directed; maintain daily log for adherence to security regulations and protocols.
  • Maintains procedures to protect the safety of all court personnel, attorneys, and visitors in the courts.
  • Performs the duties of Bailiff as required.
  • Takes emergency action and/or notifies emergency personnel as the situation warrants; may administer basic first aid or CPR if required.
  • Ensures proper evacuation and secures facilities during fire emergencies; assists fire department responders as required.
  • Patrols Court buildings and grounds, inspects for evidence of unauthorized entry or use, fire or fire threat, vandalism and theft.
  • Escorts citizens to their vehicles and ensures their safety as required.
  • Transports detainees and assists transportation officers in moving detainees to and from the courtroom, holding cells and vehicles.
  • Acts as liaison between the judge, attorneys, courtroom staff and the public in order to ensure the orderly conduct of court business.
  • Opens and locks secured areas and facilities.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • May perform general office support work, deliver or pick-up documents and other materials and assist the court in other ways as instructed.
  • Uses County vehicle to perform various tasks related to job duties.
  • Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
  • Contributes effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Position requires a High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of law enforcement/security experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

  • Valid driver’s license
  • HR-218 or Nevada CCW within six (6) months of date of employment
