This position operates in the Department of Public Safety command center, answering routine and emergency calls and dispatching university police officers according to department protocol. The dispatcher monitors radio communications, fire and security alarms, CCTV systems, building alarms, and residence hall access systems, responding to issues as required.
Responsibilities also include providing information and directions to callers, maintaining records in computer systems, using JNET to obtain vehicle and driver information, and performing clerical tasks. The role assists with parking operations by issuing permits, processing tickets, collecting fees, and managing visitor passes. Additional duties include issuing keys, managing lost-and-found items, contacting university personnel for emergencies, unlocking buildings, assisting with traffic control or parking enforcement, and performing other assigned security tasks.
The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to remain calm during emergencies, computer proficiency, and the ability to learn police procedures. First Aid and CPR certification and completion of required training are expected.
