Job Summary

The Security System Operator works in a central control room, monitoring closed-circuit television systems. These public/private feeds are links to surveillance cameras placed in public places and buildings to expedite border intelligence gathering for border security operations, detect and prevent crime, ensure the safety of the public and property, and assist with investigations by providing accurate and timely information to law enforcement.

Major Duties

  • Monitors multiple screens of live video or video footage from surveillance systems across various locations to detect suspicious, unusual, or unlawful activity or persons of interest or vehicles and reports incidents to officers, supervisors, or law enforcement.
  • Operates cameras using a remote-control device, such as a mouse or joystick, to get a better image.
  • Coordinates with Webb County Sheriff’s Office to provide intelligence about activity or suspects, including details, location, actions, and appearance.
  • Ensures recordings are safely stored, properly edited, and accurately labeled for easy retrieval.
  • Collaborates with the Webb County Sheriff’s Office by providing recordings or copies when required.
  • Maintains logs and records activities, incidents, and systems checks.
  • Maintains system equipment to ensure it is functioning correctly.
  • Gives evidence in court as a witness.
  • Supports emergency response efforts.
  • Maintain a professional, ethical, and reputable character at all times.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.

Complexity/Scope of Work

  • The work consists of related technical duties. Frequent changes in technology and the variety of systems maintained contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to provide video/data observations for the Webb County Sheriff’s Office Department by monitoring through computer screens.

Other Requirements/Information
  • Must possess a valid and current Texas driver’s license.
  • The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required.
  • As a condition of employment, the selected applicant must successfully pass an administrative and criminal background check, which may include employment and education verification, professional reference checks, and other job-related inquiries.
  • This position is covered under Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies.
  • Giglio and Brady Disclosure Policy: The Webb County Sheriff’s Office requires all applicants for sworn and non-sworn positions to be free of any credibility issues that would impair their ability to testify in court. As part of the hiring process, background investigations will include a review of any potential Giglio or Brady material. Any applicant who has been found to have sustained findings of dishonesty, false reporting, or moral turpitude—or who has been deemed Giglio-impaired by a prosecuting authority—may be disqualified from employment. All employees must immediately report any conduct or investigation that could affect their credibility as a witness. The Office will notify the District Attorney’s Office of any such matters as required by Brady v. Maryland and Giglio v. United States.
