Semi Skilled Laborer

THE POSITION

The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Southwestern Veterans' Center is seeking a motivated Semi Skilled Laborer to join our Maintenance Department. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Semi Skilled Laborer, you will perform manual labor and provide essential support to the maintenance team. You will determine effective work methods and procedures for daily assignments. This role involves:

  • Groundskeeping work including cutting grass, trimming trees and bushes, landscaping, and snow removal
  • Performing minor masonry work such as repairing concrete and patching walls, walkways, and patio steps
  • Preparing and painting interior and exterior areas
  • Operating mechanized and motorized grounds keeping equipment such as gang mowers, rollers, and roto-tillers
  • Changing oil, filters, plugs, and parts to service grass cutting equipment, snow removal equipment, and other tools
  • Assisting with carpentry, plumbing, and electrical tasks

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 1st shift (6:30 AM to 2:30 PM), Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):
  • Work experience in trades such as masonry, carpentry, or plumbing

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirement:
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and a TB test.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
