Senior Accountant
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant with a strong background in retail accounting to oversee and manage financial operations across multiple furniture and mattress stores. The role requires in-depth knowledge of retail financial processes, inventory accounting, store-level reporting, and compliance, ensuring accurate financial records and supporting strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day to day accounting operations for retail stores, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
- Oversee month end and year end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and store-level performance analysis.
- Handle inventory accounting, including stock valuation, cost of goods sold (COGS), stock adjustments, shrinkage, and physical inventory reconciliations.
- Monitor and reconcile point of sale (POS) transactions, cash sales, credit card settlements, and returns.
- Ensure proper accounting for promotions, discounts, warranties, and installment sales (if applicable).
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for multiple retail locations.
- Ensure compliance with local tax regulations, VAT/sales tax filings, and statutory reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with auditors during internal and external audits and provide required documentation.
- Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and retail financial procedures.
- Collaborate with store managers, procurement, and operations teams to ensure accurate financial data and cost control.
- Supervise junior accounting staff and provide guidance and training as required.
Requirements & Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
-Professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA, CA, CMA) is an advantage.
-Minimum 5 to 8 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in retail (furniture, mattresses, or multi-store retail preferred).
-Strong knowledge of inventory accounting and retail financial processes.
-Experience working with ERP/accounting systems and POS integrations.
-Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
-Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
-Ability to manage multiple store accounts and meet tight deadlines.
-High attention to detail and strong compliance mindset.
-Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
Preferred Experience:
-Experience in furniture or mattress retail industry.
-Multi-branch or franchise retail accounting experience.
-Exposure to import costing and landed cost calculations (if applicable).
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Contract
Contract length: 24 months
Pay: RO250.000 - RO400.000 per month
