Senior Accountant

Department: Accounts & Finance

Reporting To: Finance Head / Director

Location: Head Office

1. Job Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the complete accounting function, ensuring statutory compliance, managing receivables and payables, supervising junior accounts staff, and supporting financial planning in a veterinary pharmaceutical company.

This role plays a critical control position between Sales, Supply Chain, Purchase, Warehouse, and Management.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Financial Control & Supervision

Supervise day-to-day accounting operations.

Review all accounting entries before finalization.

Ensure ledger scrutiny and month-end closing.

Oversee AR, AP, and inventory accounting.

Supervise junior accountants and allocate work.

B. Accounts Receivable (Critical in Pharma Distribution)

Monitor distributor outstanding aging.

Approve credit notes (schemes, breakage, expiry returns).

Implement credit control policies.

Coordinate with Sales Head for overdue accounts.

Recommend credit hold for high-risk distributors.

Ensure timely collection and cash flow discipline.

C. Accounts Payable Management

Verify vendor invoices against PO and GRN.

Approve vendor payment schedules.

Monitor payment cycles.

Negotiate credit terms with vendors (with Purchase team).

Ensure no duplicate or incorrect payments.

D. Inventory & Stock Accounting (High Priority in Vet Pharma)

Reconcile stock reports with warehouse data.

Monitor:

Expiry returns

Sales returns

Damage claims

Promotional/free goods accounting

Control stock adjustments.

Conduct periodic stock audits.

E. GST & Statutory Compliance

Review GST returns (GSTR-1, 3B, reconciliation).

Ensure correct HSN classification for veterinary products.

Monitor TDS compliance.

Coordinate with CA for:

Income Tax

ROC (if applicable)

Annual Audit

Ensure zero-penalty compliance record.

F. Financial Reporting & MIS

Prepare and review:

Monthly P&L

Balance Sheet

Cash Flow Statement

Prepare:

Sales vs Collection reports

Expense control reports

Territory-wise profitability analysis

Product margin analysis

Present financial summaries to management.

G. Budgeting & Cost Control

Assist in annual budgeting.

Monitor marketing and promotional expenses.

Control overhead leakage.

Track scheme impact on margins.

H. Internal Controls & Risk Management

Design and implement internal financial controls.

Ensure segregation of duties.

Prevent fraud, leakage, and manipulation.

Conduct internal audits periodically.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹350,000.00 - ₹490,000.00 per year
