Senior Accountant

Salary: $55,000
Location: South Plymouth (Onsite)

Start Date: May 2026

Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support the day-to-day accounting operations of a mid-sized nonprofit organization serving adults with disabilities in group homes and shared living supports. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with strong foundational skills who is ready to take on increased responsibility in financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end close, while working collaboratively across departments.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries and maintain the general ledger
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
• Perform account reconciliations, including cash, prepaid expenses, and accruals
• Support preparation of internal financial statements and reports
• Tracking and reporting on State contracts, donor restricted funding and grants
• Prepare audit schedules and support annual external audit process
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies and accounting standards (GAAP)
• Partner with program and administrative staff to support budget tracking and expense monitoring
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 2–5 years of accounting experience (nonprofit experience preferred)
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
• Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAGE, NetSuite, or similar)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with nonprofit or fund accounting
• Exposure to grant tracking and reporting
• Progress toward CPA certification (a plus, not required)
