Senior Accountant

Job Summary

We are seeking a self-managed Senior Accountant to serve as the sole operator of our accounting department. In this individual contributor role, you will be fully responsible for managing the end-to-end full accounting cycle across all our dynamic revenue streams. You will oversee everything from daily front-line point-of-sale reconciliations to presenting financial statements directly to administration and executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently prepare, analyze, and publish monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow) in compliance with GAAP and PR financial regulations.
  • Deliver clear, data-driven financial reporting and variance metrics directly to senior leadership.
  • Monitor and evaluate segment margins, trends, and financial performance across core revenue streams: lodging bookings, court rentals, and gym memberships.
  • Manage and execute the full monthly close process within the target timeline of 7 business days, ensuring the accurate and timely progressive reconciliation of accounts, balance sheet adjustments, and final statement generation.
  • Develop segment-level P&L reporting for individual revenue streams and provide comprehensive financial data packages to support partnership and commercial space negotiations.
  • Actively monitor, review, and analyze accounts receivable aging reports to track outstanding customer balances, evaluate collection performance, and identify past-due accounts.
  • Proactively manage and lead collections by identifying delinquent accounts, initiating regular communication with past-due customers, and optimizing collection workflows to lower the company's Days Sales Outstanding (DSO).
  • Generate and distribute customer invoices promptly following booking confirmations or service delivery.
  • Enforce established company deposit requirements and manage specialized billing accounts, such as sponsorships, in accordance with contractually agreed-upon payment schedules.
  • Compile and present a monthly AR aging summary to the administration alongside an actionable, structured collection action plan.
  • Oversee the full accounts payable (AP) cycle, ensuring accurate departmental coding, verification of supporting documentation, and timely processing of vendor bills.
  • Manage routine disbursement and payment cycles, prioritizing critical operational vendors while maintaining established authorization and expense approval workflows.
  • Conduct daily transactional validation by auditing and matching point-of-sale (POS) systems, credit card settlements, cash receipts, and online bookings across all complex revenue segments.
  • Manage daily cash ledger entries, perform routine bank and credit card reconciliations, and coordinate regular bank deposits to ensure secure cash management.
  • Independently manage fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and all periodic closing activities to maintain general ledger integrity.
  • Maintain, monitor, and enforce robust internal control policies and standardized operating procedures to mitigate risk and protect financial data confidentiality.
  • Review financial data daily to identify anomalies, ensuring any notable transactional variances are investigated, resolved, or immediately escalated to administration.
  • Oversee and audit mandatory cash-handling and counting procedures across all facility touchpoints to verify absolute front-line accuracy.
  • Oversee strict compliance with local laws, managing the accurate preparation, timely filing, and payment of state and municipal Sales and Use Taxes (IVU) alongside applicable withholdings.
  • Act as the primary operational liaison for external auditors, ensuring supporting documentation is meticulously organized for annual financial reviews.
  • Maintain and optimize core accounting software platforms, ensuring seamless data integration and accuracy between secondary scheduling tools and point-of-sale systems.
  • Continually refine standalone workflows to maximize accounting efficiency, reduce reporting cycles, and enhance structural financial transparency across all business segments.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BBA) in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience. A proven track record of working successfully as a sole accountant, senior bookkeeper, or in a highly autonomous environment is strongly preferred.
  • Comprehensive, hands-on knowledge and a deep understanding of bookkeeping fundamentals and the full accounting cycle.
  • Prior experience in hospitality/lodging (such as Airbnb or hotel operations), multi-department retail, sports complexes, or recreational facilities is highly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online and advanced Microsoft Excel skills (including data sorting, VLOOKUPs, and pivot tables).
  • Fluent bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required (must be completely fluent reading, writing, and speaking in both languages).
  • Strong self-management, top-tier organizational abilities, and excellent analytical skills to translate financial data into clear reports for non-financial managers.
