About the Role
Anaya Steel is a growing steel import and distribution company headquartered in Fairfax, VA. Our owners and sales team are frequently traveling, which means this role is the financial backbone of our operation.
We are seeking a highly experienced, degree-holding accounting professional who can own the full accounting cycle end-to-end — from daily journal entries and ledger maintenance to month-end close and payroll. A small portion of the role includes general office oversight to keep operations running smoothly.

Core Accounting Responsibilities (Primary Focus — ~85%)
General Ledger & Journal Entries
- Prepare, review, and post all accounting journal entries with proper documentation and coding
- Maintain and manage the general ledger; ensure accounts are accurate, current, and properly classified
- Perform accruals, prepaid amortization, and adjusting entries at period end
Month-End & Year-End Close
- Own and execute the full monthly close process, including checklist management and deadline adherence
- Prepare month-end financial statements: Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow summaries
- Support year-end close activities and coordinate with the external CPA for annual review/audit
- Assist with multi-state sales tax filings and ensure compliance with applicable tax schedules
Bank & Account Reconciliations
- Perform monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner; maintain complete reconciliation workpapers
- Manage accounts receivable aging and follow up on outstanding balances
Accounts Payable & Vendor Payments
- Process and manage all vendor invoices through the full accounts payable cycle
- Ensure timely and accurate payment of vendors via ACH, wire transfer, and check
- Maintain vendor records, W-9s, and issue 1099s at year-end
- Review and approve expense reports and reimbursements
Payroll Processing
- Process accurate bi-weekly payroll for all employees; maintain complete payroll records
- Ensure proper payroll tax withholdings, remittances, and filings (federal and state)
- Manage employee onboarding documentation from a payroll and HR records standpoint
- Coordinate with benefits providers for deduction accuracy and enrollment changes
Office Management Responsibilities (~15%)
- Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming calls, emails, and visitors
- Oversee day-to-day office operations, supplies, and facilities
- Maintain organized filing systems for contracts, records, and correspondence
- Support owners and leadership with administrative needs while traveling
- Coordinate with the sales team on scheduling, documentation, and customer communications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a directly related field (Required)
- Minimum 10 years of hands-on accounting experience, with demonstrated full-cycle ownership
- Expert-level proficiency in QuickBooks (Online or Desktop), including chart of accounts, classes, and reporting
- Proven experience closing the books independently on a monthly and annual basis
- Strong understanding of GAAP principles and their application to small-to-mid-size business accounting
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (reconciliation workpapers, pivot tables, financial analysis)
- Experience processing payroll (direct experience with a payroll platform is highly valued)
- Experience with multi-state sales tax compliance is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA license or CPA candidate (preferred but not required)
- Experience in import, distribution, manufacturing, or commodities industries
- Familiarity with ACH/wire transfer processing and banking portal management
- Experience supporting an external CPA or audit firm during annual review
