Senior Accountant – Accounts Payable


A Single Family Office based in New York is seeking a Senior Accountant – Accounts Payable to play a key role in supporting the financial operations of the Family Office. This position will be responsible for managing accounts payable processes, maintaining accurate financial records, and collaborating with internal and external partners to ensure efficient financial operations.


Responsibilities

  • Manage the timely and accurate processing of accounts payable for multiple entities and vendors using accounting software and related systems.
  • Review and reconcile incoming invoices against complex contracts, verifying pricing, payment terms, and applicable charges.
  • Ensure all required approvals are obtained and properly documented prior to payment processing.
  • Process transactions, perform reconciliations, and record journal entries as needed.
  • Review financial transactions for accuracy and report discrepancies or irregularities to management and the CFO.
  • Ensure property tax invoices are processed and paid accurately and on schedule.
  • Assist with balance sheet and income statement reconciliations, as well as budget-to-actual variance analysis.
  • Support accounting staff by preparing backup documentation for client billings.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with new and existing vendors.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including household staff, tax accountants, bankers, and insurance brokers.
  • Participate in special projects related to operational and financial initiatives within the Family Office.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to workflow processes to increase efficiency and implement best practices.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processing.
  • Experience with Bill.com preferred.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial statement preparation.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required; experience with Bill.com required and Expensify preferred.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, etc.) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technology and financial systems quickly.
  • Strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail; reliable, proactive, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals and stakeholders.
  • Strong integrity, flexibility, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness to maintain timely responsiveness outside of standard business hours when needed.


Compensation: $120k-140k base + benefits
