Location: Houston, TX [REMOTE ROLE]

Job Summary

A leading healthcare organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to perform complex accounting functions and financial analysis. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy of financial statements, supporting month-end close processes, and delivering meaningful financial insights to leadership. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, advanced accounting knowledge, and experience working in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Compile and analyze complex financial data to prepare journal entries and upload to the general ledger
  • Support consolidation of business units, including elimination entries
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial records and transactions
  • Prepare financial reports including balance sheets, income statements, and other key reports
  • Perform variance analysis and communicate findings to management
  • Identify trends and provide actionable financial insights for decision-making

Month-End Close & Reconciliations

  • Support and manage month-end close activities
  • Review and approve journal entries prepared by accounting staff
  • Reconcile complex general ledger accounts with bank statements and sub-ledgers
  • Investigate discrepancies and report material variances
  • Approve account reconciliations completed by team members

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Assist in preparing annual budgets and financial forecasts
  • Support various financial areas such as supply chain, lab, pharmacy, leases, debt, and joint ventures

Compliance & Process Improvement

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and reporting deadlines
  • Identify and communicate accounting discrepancies or compliance issues
  • Recommend improvements to accounting systems, processes, and internal controls
  • Participate in cross-functional and complex financial projects

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner with finance leadership and cross-functional teams across the organization
  • Provide training, mentorship, and guidance to junior accounting staff
  • Present financial information and insights to stakeholders
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and departmental goals

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting
  • 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles and practices
  • Advanced analytical and variance analysis skills
  • Experience working with ERP systems and Business Intelligence tools
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience with EPIC (Cash Reconciliation)
  • Experience with Lawson or BlackLine systems
  • Prior experience in healthcare or large enterprise environments
