Senior Accounts Payable Manager

Overview

A publicly traded financial services organization with a global platform is seeking a Senior Manager, Accounts Payable to lead and modernize its enterprise AP function within Corporate Accounting. This role sits in a SOX-controlled, multi-entity environment and will oversee a high-volume AP operation (~2,500 invoices per month) across domestic and offshore teams.

The Senior Manager will lead a team of approximately eight professionals (including offshore resources) and serve as the functional owner of accounts payable operations, controls, systems, and reporting. The role partners closely with Accounting, Treasury, Procurement, FP&A, and external auditors to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant processing of vendor obligations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop an AP team across domestic and offshore resources, establishing KPIs and performance standards.
• Oversee full-cycle accounts payable operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and SOX-compliant internal controls.
• Support month-end and quarter-end close, including reconciliations, reporting, and audit coordination.
• Maintain 1099 compliance and ensure adherence to GAAP and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, and related reporting.
• Drive automation initiatives and system enhancements to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
• Partner with Treasury, Procurement, and Finance leadership to optimize payment workflows and vendor governance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive Accounts Payable experience, including team leadership
• Experience operating within a public-company or SOX-controlled environment strongly preferred
• Proven track record managing high-volume AP functions
• Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and audit processes
• Hands-on experience with 1099 reporting and vendor compliance
• Exposure to fixed asset accounting preferred
• Experience leading offshore or multi-location teams a plus
• Proficiency with ERP systems and AP automation tools (AvidBill or similar)
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
