Description of Work
This position will report to the Division Traffic Engineer in Division 10. The Senior Assistant Division Traffic Engineer is responsible for review of engineering studies, including traffic impact analysis (TIA) review. This position will perform duties to include planning, organizing, training, and other work duties as needed. Prepare and correspond to email, answer Contact Us program and review plans for pavement markings, signage, traffic control, etc. along with requests/complaints from the general public, contractors and other departments. Position will maintain records and reports on all evaluations done. The selected candidate must have the knowledge and ability to interpret/review TIA’s. This position must have the ability and knowledge to investigate the complaints and suggest/implement corrective actions. Many decisions can reflect the dangers/safety of the traveling public. This position is responsible for maintaining, updating, and implementing signal timing changes for isolated and coordinated traffic signals. The employee selected for this position must have considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of Traffic Engineering, including highway construction and maintenance methods and techniques. Must have the ability to communicate orally and in writing with DOT staff and employees, Governmental Officials, Private Engineers and Developers, and the general public. Experience with personnel management is helpful. Must have the ability to operate computer using Microsoft and SAP applications.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: Salary Grade: NC18 / Salary Range: $61,545.00 - $107,703.00

Will be expected to legally operate a state motor vehicle. Employee will be subject to outside environmental conditions, noise and traffic hazards and will be required to traverse difficult and steep terrain.
Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification: May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
