Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator to manage and optimize the database infrastructure powering our commercial real estate loan servicing platform. You will be responsible for ensuring high availability, performance, security, and reliability of our database systems that handle billions of dollars in loan data. This role is critical to maintaining data integrity and supporting both operational workloads and analytical queries at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Database Management and Operations

  • Administer and maintain production databases
  • Design and implement database schemas for loan servicing workflows
  • Manage database installations, upgrades, patches, and migrations
  • Monitor database health, performance metrics, and resource utilization
  • Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures
  • Manage database security, access controls, and user permissions

Performance Optimization

  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in queries and database operations
  • Optimize complex SQL queries for loan data retrieval and reporting
  • Design and maintain database indexes for optimal query performance
  • Perform query plan analysis and tuning
  • Implement partitioning strategies for large loan and transaction tables
  • Configure database parameters for optimal performance
  • Conduct capacity planning and recommend infrastructure scaling

Data Security and Compliance

  • Implement row-level security and data encryption (at rest and in transit)
  • Manage database access controls and audit logging
  • Ensure compliance with financial services regulations (SOC 2, PCI DSS if applicable)
  • Implement data masking and anonymization for non-production environments
  • Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments
  • Establish and enforce database security best practices
  • Support compliance audits and documentation requirements

High Availability and Reliability

  • Configure and maintain database replication and clustering
  • Implement failover mechanisms and test disaster recovery procedures
  • Monitor database uptime and establish SLA targets
  • Manage read replicas for analytical workloads
  • Set up and maintain multi-region database deployments
  • Implement automated health checks and alerting

Collaboration and Support

  • Work with Engineering team on database schema design and optimization
  • Support Data Engineers with data pipeline database requirements
  • Assist Data Scientists with analytical query optimization
  • Provide guidance on database best practices to development teams
  • Document database architectures, procedures, and runbooks
  • Train team members on database tools and best practices

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a database administrator
  • Expert level SQL skills and query optimization expertise
  • Experience managing production databases in cloud environments
  • Understanding of database replication, clustering and high availability solutions
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery strategies
  • Experience with database monitoring and performance tuning tools
  • Strong understanding of database security and access controls
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in financial services, fintech, or SaaS environments
  • Experience with database migration tools and strategies
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and columnar databases (Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Understanding of compliance frameworks (SOC 2, GDPR, CCPA)
