Job Purpose

The Senior Astronomy Guide is a site-based leadership role responsible for the delivery, supervision, and continuous development of astronomy experiences across The Red Sea destination.

This role combines advanced technical expertise in astronomy with operational leadership and guest engagement. The Senior Astronomy Guide ensures all astronomy programs, events, and observatory operations are delivered to the highest standards of safety, accuracy, and guest experience, while supporting the growth of astronomy offerings and dark-sky initiatives.

The position also plays a key role in mentoring junior guides, maintaining astronomy assets, and contributing to the development of immersive, educational, and premium stargazing experiences aligned with luxury hospitality standards.

Key Responsibilities 1. Operational Leadership
  • Lead the delivery of all astronomy experiences, tours, and observatory operations across assigned sites.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted safely, professionally, and in line with company standards.
  • Act as the senior on-site authority for astronomy operations and guest engagement.
  • Coordinate daily programs, scheduling, and resource allocation for astronomy activities.
2. Guest Experience Delivery
  • Deliver high-quality, engaging, and informative astronomy experiences tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Lead stargazing sessions, telescope observations, and astrophotography activities.
  • Provide clear scientific explanations of celestial objects and phenomena in an accessible and engaging manner.
  • Ensure a premium, memorable guest experience aligned with luxury service standards.
3. Technical Expertise & Asset Management
  • Operate and oversee the use of a wide range of optical equipment, including manual and computerized telescopes.
  • Ensure all astronomy equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and updated.
  • Conduct routine inspections, troubleshooting, and coordination of advanced maintenance where required.
  • Support the setup and operation of observatories and remote observation sites.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and asset tracking for all astronomy equipment.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of astronomy programs, events, and festivals.
  • Support the creation of unique and immersive stargazing experiences across inland and island locations.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in astronomy and integrate new knowledge into program delivery.
  • Assist in identifying new observation sites and experience opportunities.
  • Mentor, train, and support Astronomy Guides and junior team members.
  • Ensure consistency in delivery standards, safety practices, and guest engagement.
  • Support onboarding, training programs, and continuous professional development within the team.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance, and guest-focused team culture.
  • Ensure safety is the highest priority across all astronomy activities.
  • Enforce compliance with safety protocols, risk assessments, and operational procedures.
  • Promote dark-sky conservation and environmental awareness among guests and staff.
  • Ensure all operations align with environmental sustainability standards.
  • Adhere to all company policies, SOPs, and operational guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities, equipment usage, and maintenance logs.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to management on operations, guest feedback, and site conditions.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance guest experience, operational efficiency, and program quality.
  • Support innovation in astronomy experiences and delivery methods.
  • Contribute to best practice development and knowledge sharing within the team.
Job Requirements Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Astronomy, Physics, Astrophysics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in astronomy operations, education, or related environments.
  • Proven experience in operating a variety of telescopes (manual and computerized).
  • Strong background in observational astronomy and basic astrophotography.
  • Experience delivering educational or guest-facing astronomy programs.
  • Experience in hospitality or tourism environments is an advantage.
Core Competencies
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English; Arabic is an advantage.
  • Ability to simplify complex scientific concepts for diverse audiences.
