EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The Colorado Department of Revenue (DOR) is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical professional to join the Financial Services Division as a Senior Budget Analyst (Budget and Policy Analyst III). This role is critical in ensuring that the Department’s financial resources are used effectively, efficiently, and in strict compliance with state statutes and fiscal
rules.As a Senior Budget Analyst, you will be responsible for organizing, interpreting, and reporting complex financial data. You will act as a primary financial advisor for assigned divisions, supporting them through the full budget lifecycle- from development and management to financial reconciliation and reporting.What You'll Do: Organize, interpret, and report Department of Revenue financial data in direct coordination with the Budget Manager and Director.Track and analyze divisional personal services and operating budgets to ensure all financial resources are used effectively and efficiently.Develop complex models using benchmarking and process analysis to support expenditure, revenue, and cash fund reserve projections.Apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to ensure all spending complies with state statutes, fiscal rules, and Department policy.Lead the production of divisional budget planning documents, including decision items, budget amendments, and supplemental requests.Pull and reconcile data from the CORE financial system to maintain the accuracy and integrity of divisional financial reporting.Monitor staffing plans and payroll reports to identify vacancy trends and track year-to-date FTE growth or slippage.Provide expert recommendations on financial strategies and methodologies to divisional leadership to support long-term planning.Assist in the development of three-to-five-year forecasts to identify and explain potential issues regarding fiscal viability.Respond to urgent, non-standard business requests by performing deep-dive analyses to answer specific operational questions.
