The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) General Services Bureau (GSB) provides facility management services for five hundred plus (500+) customers housed in fifteen (15) state owned buildings (SB) this is over two hundred sixty thousand (260,000+) square feet of space on approximately twenty-six (26) acres of property.
As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrate leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.
How does it get done?
The primary responsibilities of the Senior Building Operator will include:
- Install, maintain, repair and/or replace plumbing and irrigation systems as needed, in state owned facilities.
- Read blueprints and drawings to understand or plan the layout of plumbing, waste disposal, and water supply systems, paying attention to existing infrastructure.
- Perform cutting, assembling, installation, alteration, and repair of pipelines or pipe systems that carry water, steam, air or other liquids or gases.
- Inspect work areas for safety and compliance with state and local codes. Communicate with vendors, employees, and managers to ensure proper diagnosis is required.
- Assist and train lower-level employees.

Minimum Qualification
High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years construction experience to include familiarity with application of building codes and regulations, basic electrical, plumbing, ventilation, maintenance, and/or custodial operations; building trade experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Lifting/carrying a minimum of 10 lbs. and up to 50lbs. Climbing, bending, climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and standing for extended periods of time. Indoor and Outdoor work, working in confined areas and in all types of weather conditions. This position will require twenty-four (24) hours on call status for snow removal during periods of inclement weather.
