The Senior Buyer role in the industry is crucial for managing procurement operations and maintaining cost-effective purchasing strategies. This position involves overseeing the purchasing of goods, services, and materials required by an organization, ensuring quality standards are met and costs are kept within budget. As a strategic component of the supplies management team, the Senior Buyer drives negotiations with suppliers, analyses market trends, and manages relationships with key vendors, playing a vital role in the operational efficiency and financial success of the company. Developing and executing procurement strategies that align with company goals.

Tasks and Duties

The tasks and duties of a Senior Buyer are both varied and dynamic, requiring keen attention to detail and a proactive approach:

  • Evaluating suppliers based on price, quality, and delivery speed.
  • Reviewing and processing requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment.
  • Controlling the procurement budget and promoting a culture of long-term saving on procurement costs.
  • Overseeing the maintenance of records of goods ordered and received.
  • Identifying potential suppliers, visiting existing suppliers, and building and maintaining good relationships with them.
  • Preparing reports and updates as and when needed, as well as managing supplier scorecard.
  • Liaising with other departments, particularly the accounting and stock departments, Apps Engineering, IS and other departments as needed.
  • Maintenance Crib adherence to process standards.
  • Lead the sourcing activities for NPD projects.
  • Negotiating contracts and terms with suppliers to secure advantageous terms.
  • Performing cost analyses and setting benchmarks for quality and cost.
  • Ensuring timely delivery of materials and services from vendors.
  • Conducting market research to stay updated on industry trends and new suppliers.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Managing inventory levels to optimize stock turnover and reduce holding costs.
  • Managing MRO purchases and building a cost tracking process.

Education and Skill Requirements

Candidates for the Senior Buyer position typically need the following requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, economics, supply chain management, or a related field is essential.
  • Additional certifications such as Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) are highly desirable.
  • Proven experience of 2 to 5 years in a procurement or purchasing role.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement and vendor management software.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Experience in sourcing from both domestic and international suppliers.

The compensation range for this position is $34.62 - $43.27. Final offers may vary based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The posted range represents the expected earning potential for this position within the current organizational budget and market conditions.
