Pharmacy Purchasing Responsibilities:

  • Procurement of medications, supplies, services, equipment.
  • Accurate and cost effective procurement within the fiscal and productivity of the hospital.
  • Responsible for the procurement of supplies, equipment and services for the hospital and any necessary affiliated corporate organizations within pharmacy compliance standards. Maintains education and knowledge of the 340B program and complies with all policies and procedures that are associated with it.
  • Works closely with our 340B team to coordinate the opening/closing of accounts – to ensure accuracy of pricing associated with accounts (WAC, GPO, 340B).
  • Complies with contracted 340B TPA (Third Party Administrator) to ensure accuracy and compliance in the 340B program.
  • Research and process orders to ensure they are placed on the correct ordering account.
  • Process requests for supplies, equipment and services within a timely manner.
  • Processes invoices and statements associated with pharmacy medication/supply procurement in a timely manner to ensure we are meeting payment terms.
  • Follow up on purchases to ensure timely delivery and/or completion of the procurement process.
  • Manages returns for supported customers.
  • Functions as the resource to departments they support in offering assistance during budgeting sessions.
  • Relays any pricing and contractual changes to the pharmacy business manager for negotiating pricing and contracts.
  • Reconciles discrepancies and errors on invoices so that vendors may be paid within the terms of the invoice.
  • Identifies potential pricing errors and works with our 340B team to issue credit/rebills.
  • Monitor and respond appropriately to drug shortages, recalls and DSCSA compliance.
  • Maintains accurate par levels and monitors for inventory adjustments.
  • Ensures any new barcodes purchased are uploaded for RX Informatics to add to proper machine centers.
  • Coordinates annual inventory with vendor and accounting to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintains clear and consistent communication practices with pharmacy leadership and staff in relation to pharmacy procurement and compliance.
  • Process controlled substance orders in accordance with rules and regulations of State and Federal Laws.

Senior Buyer Informatics & Technology Knowledge:

  • Demonstrates working knowledge and understanding of all Pharmacy technology and informatics systems that pertain to this position.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft programs such as WORD and EXCEL is preferred.
  • Adapts to new technology and uses technology to increase productivity.

Team Builder:

  • Provides work guidance and resources to buyers within Phoebe Health System Pharmacies.
  • Acts as materials resource to internal and external customers related to medication and supplies, equipment and service needs.

Qualifications:

  • 1 year of pharmacy experience required to include a combination of pharmacy purchasing AND hospital-based pharmacy experience. (Required).
  • Associate's Degree in Pharmacy Technology or related field. (Preferred).

Licenses, Certifications & Required Training:

  • Technician Registration with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy AND Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
  • Pharmacy Technician job family roles employed before August 1, 2011, may remain employed as a Pharmacy Tech/Buyer without meeting the certification requirement.
