Role Overview
The Senior Civil Engineer provides leadership and oversight in the design, production, and coordination of conceptual and final civil engineering plans. This role advises staff on design procedures, ensures quality control, and serves as a key interface with clients and public agencies. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in civil engineering elements, including roadway design, site grading, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, environmental compliance, ADA compliance, and pavement markings/signage. The position requires strong analytical skills to interpret ordinances, analyze design requirements, and deliver effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities
· Serve as Lead Designer and technical resource for the team, ensuring quality control of plan submissions.
· Resolve design and coordination issues with agencies, clients, and internal departments.
· Manage land development projects, coordinating with clients, agencies, and internal teams.
· Act as Project Manager, overseeing client selection, project monitoring, and entitlement processes.
· Maintain strong client relationships and act as primary point of contact.
· Interpret survey data, legal descriptions, and government standards for application in design.
· Prepare comprehensive site and subdivision plans for residential, commercial, and industrial projects, including stormwater management, sewer plans, water network analysis, public street design, erosion and sediment control plans, fire lane plans, pavement design, striping and signage plans, maintenance of traffic plans, bond estimates and reductions.
· Assist clients with bonding and permitting procedures.
· Support other departments with rezoning, infill lot grading plans, and preliminary plats.
· Participate in industry-related networking events, associations, and organizations.
Required Skills & Experience
· Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
· Experience with engineering software such as HEC-RAS, StormCAD, WaterCAD, or similar.
· Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Strong organizational and time management abilities.
· In-depth knowledge of land development and entitlement processes for Charles County and Prince George’s County.
· Preferred experience in Montgomery County, Charles County, and Prince George’s County, Maryland.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
