You will lead civil engineering design for large-scale data center campuses. This role owns site design outcomes across planning, design, and early construction phases. You will guide external consultants, set design standards, and ensure work meets Switch performance requirements. Your decisions directly impact site feasibility, cost, and long-term operational performance.
- Lead civil site design for data center campuses, including grading, drainage, and utility coordination
- Review and direct work from civil, geotechnical, and utility consultants
- Ensure designs meet local codes, AHJ requirements, and Switch standards
- Develop and maintain campus-level civil design standards and processes
- Support early site planning, including test fits, site layouts, and feasibility analysis
- Contribute to RFP development and evaluate consultant proposals
- Coordinate with internal teams across design, construction, and operations
- Identify design risks and drive solutions through resolution
- Review site models and studies such as drainage, acoustic, and airflow impacts
- Travel up to 25% for site reviews and coordination meetings
- Communicates clearly and directly with internal teams and external partners
- Makes decisions with incomplete information and moves work forward
- Holds a high bar for accuracy, quality, and follow-through
- Works well across teams and resolves issues without escalation when possible
- Identifies risks early and takes ownership of solutions
- Shares information openly to support team and project outcomes
- Stays focused on practical, buildable design solutions
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- 7–10+ years of civil engineering experience in large-scale commercial or industrial projects
- Experience leading site design scope across multiple project phases
- Strong knowledge of grading, drainage, and utility systems
- Experience managing external design consultants
- Familiarity with permitting and coordination with AHJs and utilities
- Proficiency with Civil 3D and standard design tools
Preferred
- Experience with mission-critical or data center projects
- Experience developing design standards or technical guidelines
- Familiarity with hydraulic modeling, erosion control, and site optimization
