We are seeking a Senior Commissioning Project Manager to join our State, Local, and Educational market sector. This role is responsible for managing and executing the commissioning process for complex building systems, ensuring systems are designed, installed, and functionally tested to meet project goals and client expectations. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with owners, design teams, and contractors, leveraging your technical expertise to enhance the performance and sustainability of the built environment. This full-time, permanent role is based in San Antonio, Texas.
Lead commissioning activities for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems across complex facilities including laboratories, higher education, healthcare, municipal, and mission-critical environments
Manage and coordinate commissioning phases from pre-design through post-occupancy, establishing commissioning strategy and performance objectives
Develop and execute commissioning plans, schedules, and functional test procedures for advanced HVAC and specialty systems (e.g., chilled beams, laboratory air valves, geothermal systems, heat recovery) in alignment with project specifications and industry standards
Conduct rigorous design reviews, including analysis of control sequences, system integration strategies, and operability across multiple interacting systems
Perform detailed site inspections, system readiness checks, and functional performance testing to validate installation, integration, and operational performance.
Monitor project timelines and milestones, preparing status updates and reports for internal and external reviews
Review construction documents, specifications, submittals, and system design to identify commissioning requirements and potential issues
Analyze test data and performance results to troubleshoot issues and recommend corrective actions
Coordinate with owners, A/E teams, contractors, and equipment vendors to resolve technical challenges and ensure project commissioning goals are achieved
Participate in owner training sessions and support the development of systems manuals and final commissioning reports
Contribute to defining commissioning scopes, fee proposals, and project execution strategies in collaboration with senior leadership
Ensure commissioning activities align with industry best practices and sustainability certifications such as LEED or IECC
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Architectural Engineering
Minimum of 60 months of experience in Commissioning Project Management or Commissioning Engineering within the MEP industry
Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA) Certification required, or ability to obtain certification within three months of hire
Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, building automation controls, energy management, and MEP system integration
Proven ability to lead commissioning for complex or mission-critical facilities (e.g. labs, healthcare, higher education, municipal, or federal)
Experience developing commissioning strategies, leading functional testing, and resolving advanced system integration issues
Knowledge of commissioning standards and codes, including ASHRAE, LEED, and IECC
Proficiency in interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
Working proficiency with energy modeling software such as Trane TRACE, eQUEST, EnergyPlus, or equivalent
Familiarity with commissioning software tools such as BlueRithm or Facility Grid
Ability to interpret and assess controls logic/programming within platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, or Distech, and familiarity with scripting/logic blocks
Exceptional technical writing abilities, including experience producing commissioning reports and owner-facing documentation
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Willingness to travel up to 75% travel required, primarily within the Southwestern United States
