The Sr. Commodity Manager (P4) is a senior-level procurement professional responsible for developing and executing global commodity strategies that drive long-term value, resiliency, and innovation across the supply base. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy, applying advanced expertise in supply markets, cost modeling, and global sourcing practices. The Sr. Commodity Manager partners closely with internal stakeholders (engineering, manufacturing, planning, and quality) to proactively align procurement strategy with business objectives. This position also identifies supply risks, leads negotiations, and drives continuous improvement in supplier performance and sourcing processes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead sourcing strategies for complex commodities and high-impact supplier relationships across multiple product lines.

  • Develop long-term commodity strategies to support the business needs. Proactively educate key stakeholders on market intelligence, cost developments, and supply continuity. Drive key decisions based on cost and risk avoidance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical and commercial requirements for sourcing.

  • Manage supplier selection, negotiation, and contract execution to secure optimal value, quality, and risk mitigation.

  • Establish and maintain ERP and procurement systems accuracy across complex sourcing structures (e.g., multi-tier BOMs, commodity codes).

  • Conduct advanced cost modeling, market analysis, and risk assessments to guide strategic decisions and mitigate supply disruption.

  • Resolve escalated supplier issues related to quality, delivery, or compliance in collaboration with Quality and Operations teams.

  • Support new product introductions (NPIs) by ensuring timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials/components.

  • Partner with engineering and planning to assess make-versus-buy options and support design-for-supply chain efforts.

  • Monitor supplier performance and lead supplier development or corrective action plans.

  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to procurement process improvement initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrated sourcing experience with a subset of critical robotics components (e.g., actuators, high-precision sensors, specialized electronic components, machined parts, and motor/motion control systems).
  • Deep knowledge of commodity markets, global sourcing strategies, and supplier risk management.

  • Strong analytical and commercial acumen, including advanced cost analysis and negotiation strategy.

  • Proficient in leading procurement-related projects and driving process improvements.

  • Skilled in supplier performance management, contracts, and escalation handling.

  • Fluent in ERP systems and procurement data governance (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Coupa).

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to influence stakeholders and lead cross-functional initiatives.

  • Ability to manage complexity, ambiguity, and cross-cultural supplier interactions.
Typical Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field (Master’s degree a plus).

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in sourcing, procurement, or commodity management.

  • Proven track record of successful negotiations and supplier management in global or multi-site environments.

Professional certifications (e.g., CPSM, CPIM, CSCP) or working conceptual knowledge are strongly preferred.
