The Construction Industries Division protects consumers by regulating the industry through policies that promote business growth, safety, and general welfare of the public. The division strives to provide excellent customer service, every time, while:

Ensuring that construction is performed in a safe, competent, and professional manner
Licensing contractors and enforcing licensing laws
Requiring licensure for any person practicing or offering to practice construction contracting
Enforcing the laws, regulations, and standards governing construction contracting in a fair and uniform manner
Providing resolution to disputes that arise from construction activities

Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of the closing date.
Why does the job exist?

This position helps ensure that licensed contractors follow all applicable statutes New Mexico Statutes Annotated (NMSA) and rules New Mexico Administrative Code (NMAC). The position is both administrative and investigative. This position will work with division staff, the Attorney General's Office, Construction Industries Commission, the public and licensees. A working knowledge of Inspection of Public Records Act, Open Meetings Act, and Uniform Licensing Act is applicable to this position.
How does it get done?

This position inputs data, tracks information, investigates administrative violations, works with trade bureaus to ensure code violations are addressed, testifies in hearings, presents in Commission meetings, works as part of a statewide team and with local jurisdictions on violations of state statutes and rules. Must write investigative reports and speak interactively in front of groups of people such as Construction Industries Commission and in trainings for licensees and the public. Responsibilities also including working with databases, Excel, Word, and other computer programs. Answers and returns phone calls.

The position will work with project owners, licensees, trade bureaus, local jurisdictions, the Attorney General's Office and the Construction Industries Commission which ensures Construction Industries Licensing Act (CILA) and rules are being followed.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of experience in investigations, regulation, policy, statutory, and/or contract compliance. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling five (5) years may substitute for the required education and experience
Employment Requirements

Must be able to pass a preemployment background check and maintain a valid driver's license.
Working Conditions

Work is performed with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. This position will work in and out of the office, statewide travel may be required. Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
