About this Role:

The Senior Construction Auditor is responsible for performing detailed reviews and analyses of construction applications for payment and professional service invoices on assigned projects and programs. This role focuses on verifying that billed costs are accurate, properly supported, and compliant with contract requirements, applicable policies, and established invoice review and exception-handling procedures.

The Senior Construction Auditor works in a dynamic, multi-vendor environment and supports projects delivered under various construction project delivery approaches. This position requires a solid understanding of construction contracts and invoice processing, along with the ability to identify, document, and communicate compliance issues effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follow established invoice review procedures, instructions, and exception-handling processes.
  • Read, interpret, and understand construction contract provisions related to invoice processing and payment, translating contract requirements into actionable compliance testing.
  • Demonstrate a working understanding of various contract structures and associated cost controls.
  • Verify that each invoice has all required contractual authorizations prior to approval.
  • Understand the scope of work associated with the construction project being billed and assess whether invoiced costs align with approved scope.
  • Review invoices across multiple vendors and contracts, effectively managing complex and high-volume review environments.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with clients and vendors to facilitate communication and timely resolution of issues identified during the invoice review process.
  • Identify non-compliance issues and clearly document findings and associated cost impacts in a concise and accurate manner.
  • Describe identified issues and request appropriate corrective actions in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain complete and well-organized electronic and paper work papers documenting review procedures, findings, reviewed amounts, and payment recommendations.
  • Create, manipulate, and analyze spreadsheets to support invoice reviews, reconciliations, and tracking.
  • Maintain accurate and timely invoice tracking logs to support payment workflows and reporting.
  • Work independently while exercising sound professional judgment, and seek appropriate guidance and clarification when needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with other members of the audit and project team to ensure consistent application of review procedures.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience reviewing and/or processing construction invoices or payment applications.
  • Construction contract compliance experience.
  • Previous knowledge of the construction industry.
  • Experience with all construction project delivery methods.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and inconsistencies.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to evaluate complex cost and contract information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document and explain findings.
  • Strong professional customer service skills and ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
