Additional Position Information
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Community Engagement (SLI), the Senior Coordinator for Training and Development serves as the primary point of contact for leadership education and advisor development across Registered Student Organizations (RSOs). This position is responsible for ensuring consistency, quality, and impact in leadership programming, advisor training, and student organization operations.
The Senior Coordinator for Training and Development plays a vital role in fostering student engagement and organizational success by supporting over 300 Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) at the University. This position serves as a key contributor to the infrastructure of campus life, overseeing the management of Tiger Zone, ensuring the accuracy and maintenance of all RSO records, and coordinating the annual registration and renewal processes in compliance with University policies.
The Senior Coordinator provides strategic leadership in training and development efforts, offering guidance and resources to student leaders and organization advisors. This includes facilitating workshops, coordinating retreats, and promoting best practices in event planning, hazing prevention, and risk management. By doing so, the role helps mitigate barriers to involvement and fosters a consistent, supportive environment for student leadership. In addition to supporting individual organizations, the Senior Coordinator contributes to major campus initiatives such as Tiger Welcome and Frosh Camp—programs integral to student belonging, engagement, and retention. This position directly supports the goals of the University Strategic Plan by enhancing students’ co-curricular experiences, developing leadership capacity, and enriching the overall vibrancy of campus life.

Training and Development:- Provide resources, training, and ongoing development opportunities for student organization leaders and advisors to enhance organizational success and leadership growth.
- Develop and implement leadership development programs and retreats designed to strengthen student leader capacity and sustainability.
- Design and execute structured educational programs focused on conflict resolution, budgeting, event planning, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, and leadership exploration.
- Integrate competency models (e.g., NASPA/ACPA competencies) to track growth in areas such as civic engagement, collaboration, and strategic thinking, as well as NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers) competencies tied to the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).
- Facilitate peer-to-peer learning and mentoring networks to reinforce experiential education and leadership development.
- Promote positive and safe student experiences through comprehensive risk assessment and risk reduction strategies and education (e.g., hazing prevention, event planning, and travel).
- Serve as a resource for student organizations on topics including organizational effectiveness, officer transitions, budgeting and finance, and conflict resolution.

Campus Collaboration:- Assist with planning and execution of large-scale programs, including Tiger Welcome, Frosh Camp, leadership development initiatives, and other University and departmental traditions.
- Collaborate within and beyond the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement and Student Engagement, including with areas such as New Student Orientation, Housing, Athletics, Admissions, etc.
- Serve as a liaison between Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) and campus departments (e.g., Conference and Event Services, Facilities, and Finance).
- Collaborate with campus partners to expand student organization opportunities and foster a vibrant, inclusive campus community.
- Contribute to campus-wide initiatives related to student engagement, retention, leadership development, and risk reduction.

Advising and Advisor Education:- Coordinate advisor development initiatives, including onboarding, recognition efforts, and consultation sessions.
- Provide onboarding and continuous training for advisors, with an emphasis on risk reduction and management, student development theory, and advising practices.
- Develop and manage training materials, advisor toolkits, and expectations checklists to clarify roles and responsibilities.
- Host advisor roundtables to share best practices and foster cross-campus collaboration.
- Serve as an advisor to identified student organizations.

Departmental Assessment:- Generate measures of effectiveness, including the identification and assessment of operational outcomes.
- Identify and assess learning outcomes associated with programs and services.
- Manage the Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) database to maintain accurate records of leadership, membership, community impact, budgets, activities, and organizational continuity.
- Oversee accurate data collection and streamline processes to improve and integrate student engagement offerings.
