Reporting to the Chief IP Counsel, this individual will be responsible for managing and executing patent-related legal functions, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting FTO analyses, managing patent litigation, and advising on IP strategy. This position works closely with innovation-driven business units and collaborates closely with R, regulatory, commercial teams, senior business leaders, and external counsel to align IP strategy with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Patent Preparation& Prosecution:
- Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications.
- Conduct patentability assessments and manage global patent portfolios.
- Coordinate with inventors and technical teams to capture and protect innovations.
- FTO& Risk Analysis:
- Conduct FTO analyses to assess potential IP risks associated with new products or technologies.
- Provide legal opinions on patent validity, infringement, and clearance.
- Advise on IP risks in connection with product development, commercialization, and strategic transactions.
- Strategic IP Counseling:
- Partner with R and technical teams to develop and implement IP strategies aligned with business goals.
- Support M, licensing, and collaboration agreements with IP due diligence and contract negotiation.
- Educate internal stakeholders on IP best practices and legal developments.
- Litigation& Enforcement Support:
- Assist in managing patent litigation and opposition proceedings.
- Collaborate with outside counsel on enforcement and defense strategies
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school required.
- Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction required.
- Registration to practice before the USPTO required.
- A technical background in chemistry, chemical engineering or material science is required.
- A minimum of 5 or more years of experience as an IP attorney preferably with law firm and in-house experience.
- Patent preparation and prosecution experience.
- FTO analysis experience.
- Patent litigation experience.
- Experience managing people.
- Experience in negotiating complex technology agreements.
- Experience in electronic materials, including semiconductor, lithographic, advanced packaging, metallization and/or display technologies is preferred.

The Pay range for this role is $169,400.00 - $266,200.00 Annual
