Position Overview:

The Senior Counsel, Labor & Employment, will be a key member of a small in-house legal team. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer & General Counsel, the Senior Counsel will have primary responsibility for all labor and employment legal matters, as well as taking a key role in supporting various HR compliance requirements. The position will require close collaboration with various internal stakeholders in the company, and with significant focus on supporting the HR Department with subject matter expertise across a variety of areas.


Responsibilities:

  • Advise the company on labor and employment-related matters under federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and assist when necessary in determining relevant labor laws and requirements in foreign jurisdictions;
  • Provide legal representation and/or oversee outside counsel for all labor and employment-related disputes and litigation, including EEOC, OSHA, DOL, OFCCP and state and local agencies, as well as international matters when relevant;
  • Lead and/or supervise all employment-related internal investigations, including employee complaints, third party complaints, whistleblower claims, etc., and advise and assist the company with resolution of complaints and investigations;
  • Assist in the prevention of labor and employment disputes, litigation, or noncompliance through early involvement and advice;
  • Partner with HR to conduct periodic employment-related compliance checks and develop and deliver appropriate training to company leaders and staff;
  • Support the HR Department on matters related to compensation, benefits, ERISA, and immigration matters;
  • Participate as needed in M&A activity, providing advice on labor and employment matters;
  • Assist with other legal department matters on an as-needed basis


Required Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years experience as law firm or in-house counsel focusing on labor and employment matters and disputes, labor compliance, and employment-related investigations
  • A Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school and at least one state bar admission in good standing
  • Experience with U.S. government contracting, including for professional services, preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with employee benefits programs and compensation matters helpful but not required
  • Exposure to collective bargaining matters helpful but not required
  • Ability to work collaboratively, think strategically, and proactively identify risks to the company
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and writing skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft office suite tools (MS Word, Power Point, Excel)
  • Demonstrated experience synthesizing data into information and have attention to detail
  • Possess professional presence and issue resolution skills
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with senior levels of leadership effectively
  • Demonstrated experience handling multiple tasks concurrently and making quick decisions in a fast-paced, customer-oriented, and deadline-driven environment
  • Able to multi-task; be a team player
  • Be energetic and enthusiastic with a “can do” attitude


FLSA Status:
Exempt

Teleworking: A hybrid office/telework schedule will be permitted with supervisory approval in accordance with company guidance.

Travel: Intermittent business travel may be required based on the needs of the company, including domestic and international travel, estimated to be up to 10% of total work time.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for a long period of the time.

The employee is frequently required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The employee is occasionally required to stand, climb, or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Due to the demands of the position and international work locations, occasional work after hours or on weekends may be required.

The employee will work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment. During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
