About Finera

Finera is a payments infrastructure and payment orchestration company that helps businesses simplify and optimise how payments move through their ecosystem.

Working with merchants, acquirers, payment processors, banking partners, and alternative payment methods, Finera provides a unified platform that enables customers to improve payment performance, gain operational visibility, streamline settlement processes, and improve reconciliation accuracy.

As the business continues to grow, Finera is investing heavily in strengthening the relationship between Data, Finance, Operations, and Product teams, creating a need for a highly analytical individual who understands both complex payment operations and underlying data structures.

The Opportunity

Finera is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to join its Business Intelligence team.

This is not a traditional reporting-focused analyst position.

The successful candidate will combine:

  • Payments Operations expertise
  • Settlement & Reconciliation ownership
  • Systems Analysis capability
  • Data Modelling skills
  • Strong SQL & Python capability

The role sits within the BI team but, during its first phase, will work very closely with Finance, helping the business improve how settlement, reconciliation, and operational payment data are understood and managed.

Once this foundation has been established, the role will expand its reach into Product, Operations, Risk, and other business functions.

Approximately 80% of the role will focus on analytical, systems, and business-facing work, while 20% will support ongoing BI maintenance and reporting activities.

Key Responsibilities

Settlement & Reconciliation Analysis

  • Analyse and improve settlement and reconciliation processes across payment ecosystems.
  • Investigate discrepancies and exceptions involving:
    • Banks
    • Processors
    • Merchants
    • Internal ledgers
    • Payouts
    • Chargebacks
    • Fees and interchange
  • Partner with Finance and Operations teams to understand root causes and improve controls.

Business & Systems Analysis

  • Work directly with business stakeholders to understand operational and financial requirements.
  • Translate business processes into structured data models and reporting solutions.
  • Document and model business workflows, reconciliation logic, and operational processes.
  • Design and maintain ERDs and analytical data models.

Data Analytics

  • Independently retrieve, combine, validate, and analyse data from multiple business systems.
  • Deliver ad-hoc analysis and actionable recommendations.
  • Produce stakeholder-ready insights, reports, dashboards, and business artefacts.
  • Support ongoing maintenance and enhancement of the BI team's reporting estate.

SQL, Python & AI-Assisted Analytics

  • Write and optimise complex SQL queries.
  • Use Python for analysis, automation, data transformation, and reconciliation support.
  • Leverage AI tools (Claude and similar solutions) to accelerate analytical workflows while retaining ownership of quality and accuracy.
  • Create stakeholder-ready analytical outputs through a combination of human expertise and AI-assisted workflows.

Mandatory Requirements

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all three of the following requirements:

1. Payments Settlement & Reconciliation Experience

Applicants must have hands-on experience working within:

  • Payment Gateways
  • PSPs (Payment Service Providers)
  • Acquirers
  • High-Risk Payment Processors
  • Payment Operations environments

The experience must include ownership of settlement and reconciliation activities such as:

  • Bank reconciliations
  • Processor reconciliations
  • Merchant reconciliations
  • Ledger reconciliations
  • Payouts
  • Chargebacks
  • Fees and interchange
  • Settlement investigations

Experience analysing payment data alone is not sufficient.

2. Data Modelling / ERD Design

Applicants must have personally designed:

  • Data models
  • Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs)
  • Data structures
  • Business process models

Candidates who have only queried existing tables without designing data models are unlikely to be suitable.

3. Hands-On SQL, Python & AI Workflows

Applicants must be active users of:

  • SQL
  • Python
  • AI-assisted analytical tools (Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT, etc.)

Strong candidates will use these technologies regularly as part of their day-to-day workflow.

Preferred Experience

The following are strong advantages but not mandatory:

  • Exposure to Forex, Trading, Crypto, Gaming, or other high-risk merchant sectors
  • Tableau
  • Payment orchestration platforms
  • Acquiring environments
  • Card payments
  • Processor settlements
  • Salesforce reporting
  • Finance transformation initiatives

What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will become a key bridge between:

  • Finance
  • Operations
  • Product
  • Risk
  • Business Intelligence

Success will come from helping Finera better understand:

  • How money moves through the organisation
  • Why settlement and reconciliation issues occur
  • How operational processes should be structured
  • How data should be modelled and analysed
  • How better information can drive better business decisions
