The Role
A Senior Designer partners with the sales team to offer creative expertise in space and product solutions that support a customer's business needs. A Senior Designer is able to work on projects of any complexity. They have applicable knowledge of Herman Miller/ Knoll products, good knowledge of ancillary product selection and specification, and understand interior design theory in order to best support customer vision.
What You Will Do

Collaborates with Sales to establish client design requirements and project goals.

Develops complete design solutions, including block/space plans, finish palettes, furniture specifications, and installation drawings.

Ensures all design deliverables meet code compliance standards.

Performs field measures, product inventories, programming, and ancillary product research.

Reviews and revises design documentation to reflect client and project changes.

Creates visual presentations and drawings for client sign-off.

Provides exceptional client service—anticipating needs, understanding underlying business issues, and offering thoughtful, creative solutions.

Demonstrates leadership through high performance, mentorship, and continuous improvement; reviews and double-checks team deliverables.

Effectively presents design concepts, communicates clearly, and builds trust with clients, A+D partners, and internal teams—positioning themselves as a consultant rather than a specifier.

Identifies and resolves project challenges proactively, collaborating with stakeholders to develop effective solutions.

Manages multiple priorities and consistently meets project deadlines while maintaining design and financial goals.

Oversees and balances a workload of $5M–$8M in projects, depending on complexity.

Creates accurate specifications using CAP/AutoCAD/CET.

Coordinates with vendors for product information, pricing, and custom requirements, including COMs, tagging, and breakout specifications.

Leads live design sessions with clients, guiding the process with confidence and creativity.

Applies deep knowledge of Herman Miller/Knoll systems and seating, while also leveraging a broad understanding of ancillary manufacturers and fabric vendors to deliver innovative solutions.

Guides workflow organization, project scheduling, and time quoting for design services; clearly communicates impacts of scope changes on schedule and cost.

Consistently adheres to documentation standards, file management protocols, and project recordkeeping.
The Qualifications and/or Experience
The preferred candidate will:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Have a minimum of 8 years of dealer design experience (required).

Demonstrate proficiency in AutoCAD and CET; strong working knowledge of CAP.
- Possess functional knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheet, Outlook, and IQ.

Be highly skilled in design problem-solving, technical accuracy, and creative solutioning.

Bring in-depth knowledge of product lines and ancillary vendors, with the ability to push boundaries of standard product applications.

Clearly articulate solutions to meet client needs while presenting innovative, budget-conscious design options.

Successfully collaborate with A+D professionals, contractors, and vendors to deliver complete, coordinated projects.

Effectively manage workloads, competing priorities, and urgent deadlines while maintaining quality.

Exhibit strong time management skills, balancing planning, execution, and creative problem-solving.

Communicate confidently and consultatively with clients and project partners; adapt communication styles to different audiences.

Related Experience may include:
- Proficient level of technical credibility and professional excellence, having depth of judgment, knowledge, and technical skill critical for the position.
- Knowledge of many of the furniture lines and ancillary vendors. Willing to push the boundaries of standard product application.

Work Environment and Physical/Mental Demands
The position requires working typically in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as office phone/smartphone, computer/laptop/computer keyboard/mouse, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and printers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Ability to visit and move around at construction and other customer/work sites, wearing appropriate safety protective gear. Ability to lift, carry, and otherwise transport work-related materials that frequently weigh up to 10 lbs. and that may occasionally weigh in excess of 25 lbs. Ability to work with numbers, research complex issues, and resolve problems. Requires more advanced mathematical skills in order to understand spatial requirements and in doing bids. Must be able to read and comprehend complex written material, as well as ability to analyze, compare, evaluate, reconcile, and order data.
