Shiper.io is a fast-growing logistics & shipping SaaS helping merchants and carriers automate fulfillment, shipping rates, and tracking at scale. We build a high-throughput, low-latency platform that integrates with e‑commerce storefronts and carriers. We’re looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to own our CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and production reliability while working closely with our React frontend and Spring Boot backend teams.

Role summary

You will design, build, and operate the platform that delivers our React frontends and Spring Boot microservices. You’ll own infrastructure-as-code, automated pipelines, observability, incident response, cost optimization and security hardening. You’ll collaborate with product, frontend (React) and backend (Spring Boot) engineers to ship features quickly and safely.

Responsibilities

- Design, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for frontend (React) and backend (Spring Boot) services (build, test, security scans, canary/blue‑green deployments).

- Manage containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) for microservices.

- Implement and manage infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/CloudFormation) for cloud resources.

- Ensure high availability, scalability and performance of production systems; do capacity planning and autoscaling.

- Build and maintain observability: metrics, tracing, logging (Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger/Zipkin, ELK/EFK).

- Implement incident response, runbooks, SLOs/SLIs and perform postmortems.

- Automate provisioning, configuration management and deployments (Ansible/Chef/Puppet or equivalent).

- Secure platform infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines; manage secrets and access controls (Vault, KMS, IAM).

- Optimize cloud cost and resource usage.

- Work closely with frontend and backend engineers to optimize build times, bundle strategies, backend performance and API deployment patterns.

- Mentor junior engineers and help grow DevOps practices across the engineering organization.

Required qualifications

- 4+ years hands-on DevOps/SRE/Platform engineering experience (or equivalent).

- Direct experience supporting web frontends built with React (build processes, static hosting, CDNs, caching).

- Direct experience supporting backend services built with Spring Boot (packaging, JVM tuning, health checks, metrics).

- Strong container and orchestration skills: Docker + Kubernetes (production experience).

- CI/CD tooling: GitHub Actions / Jenkins / GitLab CI / CircleCI (designing pipelines, pipelines as code).

- Cloud experience: AWS, GCP or Azure (at least one in depth). Experience with networking, load balancing, VPCs, IAM.

- Infrastructure-as-code: Terraform or CloudFormation.

- Monitoring & logging: Prometheus/Grafana, ELK/EFK, tracing tools.

- Scripting and automation: Python, Bash, or similar.

- Good understanding of security best practices: secrets management, network policy, IAM.

- Strong collaboration and communication skills; able to work with full‑stack engineering teams.

Nice-to-have

- Experience with AWS, Helm, Kustomize.

- Experience with message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and caching (Redis).

- Familiarity with load testing, JVM profiling tools and tuning Spring Boot apps.

- Experience with edge/CDN services and static site hosting (CloudFront, Fastly, Netlify).

- Experience with database operations (Postgres, NoSQL).

- Kubernetes operators, GitOps (ArgoCD/Flux).

- Experience in e-commerce, logistics, or high-throughput APIs.
