Job Purpose
The Senior Diesel Mechanic is responsible for leading and executing advanced maintenance, diagnostics, and repair works on diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment. The role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and the ability to ensure maximum equipment uptime while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Repair
- Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on diesel engines, heavy vehicles, and construction equipment.
- Overhaul engines, gearboxes, differentials, fuel systems, braking systems, and hydraulic components.
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance as per manufacturer recommendations and company schedules.
- Identify recurring faults and recommend permanent corrective solutions.
Supervision & Technical Leadership
- Supervise and guide junior mechanics and helpers on repair methods and safety practices.
- Allocate daily tasks and monitor work progress to ensure timely completion.
- Provide on-the-job training and technical support to team members.
- Inspect completed jobs to ensure quality and compliance with standards.
Diagnostics & Reporting
- Use diagnostic tools and software to identify complex mechanical and electronic faults.
- Prepare job cards, maintenance reports, inspection checklists, and breakdown analysis.
- Maintain accurate records of spare parts usage and maintenance history.
Fleet & Equipment Management
- Ensure maximum availability and reliability of fleet and equipment.
- Coordinate with stores and procurement for spare parts and consumables.
- Advise management on equipment condition, repair vs. replacement decisions, and cost optimization.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with HSE regulations and company safety policies.
- Enforce proper use of PPE and safe working procedures in the workshop and on-site.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in the workshop area.
- Report accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
Qualifications & Experience
- ITI / Diploma in Diesel Mechanics / Automotive / Heavy Equipment Maintenance or equivalent.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
- Strong experience with heavy vehicles, generators, construction machinery, and diesel engines.
- Proven expertise in diagnostics, overhauling, and preventive maintenance.
