The Senior Director of Commercial Operations and Procurement direct's and manages all procurement, commercial, and contracting activities. This includes developing and executing strategies for business development, sales, vendor management, and strategic sourcing. The role is critical for ensuring that all commercial endeavors align with the company's long-term strategic and financial goals within the maritime sector.
Key responsibilities:
Commercial strategy and leadership

Develop and execute a commercial strategy to drive revenue growth and expand market share.

Lead the negotiation of high-value commercial contracts, service agreements, and strategic partnerships with shipping lines, port operators, and other stakeholders.

Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and industry developments to identify new business opportunities and revenue streams.

Collaborate with senior management to align commercial activities with overall corporate objectives and financial targets.
Procurement and vendor management

Oversee all procurement activities, including strategic sourcing, purchasing, and vendor management, to ensure cost-effective acquisition of goods and services.

Develop and implement best-in-class procurement policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies.

Manage and cultivate relationships with key suppliers and vendors to secure favorable terms, optimize performance, and mitigate supply chain risks.

Utilize data analytics to evaluate supplier performance, monitor market trends, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Operational excellence

Improve operational efficiency across the commercial and procurement functions through effective project management and process optimization.

Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for commercial and procurement activities to drive accountability and continuous improvement.

Advise the CEO and other senior leaders on critical operational matters, investment priorities, and project execution.

Team leadership

Qualifications and skills
Experience

Minimum of 10–15 years of experience in the shipping, ports, or maritime industry, with at least 5+ years in a senior leadership role focused on commercial operations and/or procurement.

Proven track record of success in developing and executing commercial strategies, driving revenue growth, and achieving significant cost savings.

Deep understanding of port logistics, terminal operations, and maritime regulations.

Significant experience with global sourcing, contract negotiation, and vendor relationship management.
Education

A bachelor's degree in Logistics, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is required.

A master's degree (e.g., MBA) or relevant professional certifications (e.g., CPSM) are highly preferred.
