Bryn Mawr Communications, a subsidiary of US HealthConnect is seeking an experienced Senior Editor to join the Practical Neurology team and develop outstanding content, social media, and digital assets. The Senior Editor reports to the Vice President, Content & Strategy (Neurology, Dermatology & Aesthetics) and is responsible for supporting the editorial team while ensuring our market-leading quality standards.

What a day in the life of a Senior Editor looks like:

Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Work closely with the Editorial team and the Editorial Advisory Board on planning the editorial calendar for year and commissioning topics for new issues of Practical Neurology
  • Collaborate with Guest Medical Editors and Column Editors to secure authors for articles appearing in Practical Neurology
  • Guide authors through the publishing process from commissioning through publication and beyond, answering questions about manuscript preparation, schedules, permissions, art preparation, and more
  • Work closely with freelance medical editor(s) on copy editing articles and perform a secondary copy edit on all content
  • Partner with colleagues in art/design/web on page proofs, proofreading and correcting Adobe In Design files and managing content in the organization’s content management systems/platforms
  • Support business development team to help guide and enhance client work and relationships in neurology
  • Manage the work of a Project Editor, including assigning projects, monitoring performance, and providing feedback
  • Handle case report content from submission through publication, including securing peer reviewers, and ensuring case report authors address and resolve questions raised by reviewers
  • Research and stay informed of newsworthy topics in neurology, covering specialty areas such as sleep, MS, dementia, stroke, movement disorders
  • Handle special projects, including sponsored articles, as needed
  • Take on large-scale tasks to help team meet goals if necessary
  • Assist with digital asset commissioning and development, such as video, podcasts, and more
  • Partner with digital team to manage digital content through production process including acquisition, editing, regulatory approval, and online posting
  • Along with editorial colleagues, update style guidelines and editorial processes and procedures on an annual basis

What we expect from qualified candidates:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in Journalism, Biomedical Science, Health Science, Communications, or related field
  • At least 5+ years of editorial and publishing experience, preferably with medical communications company or health publisher
  • Laser focused on maximizing quality, attention to detail, and continuous improvement processes with the goal of maximizing efficiency of operations
  • Thrive at juggling multiple projects at same time and bringing new ideas to the table
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A curious mind and love of learning, with interest in medical/biologic research
  • Experience with digital assets, such as video, podcasts, and more
  • Interested in social storytelling through Twitter, LinkedIn, and more
  • Knowledge of medical and scientific literature searches, including PubMed
  • Rigorous commitment to quality, clarity, and consistency in writing, including following a specific style manual.
  • Proficient working with software such as Microsoft Office products, Google products (e.g., Sheets, Docs, Drive, etc.), InDesign/Adobe, etc.
